    which e-bike

Your budget will get you a basic hub drive bike. Peter Darke Cycles in Sunderland has a few Ebco bikes in stock. I tried one a while ago and thought it was quite good, certainly good value.

    Trek powerfly+5

It's the nature of the bike trade, push as well as electric. Manufacturers offer dozens of models each year, but realistically only a handful of each are available in each size. The trade is already thinking about 2017 model year bikes. The Powerfly is a relatively new model, so I expect it...

    Donor bike advice reqd

If you aren't too fussed about brake cut-outs, hydraulic discs are vastly superior to cable operated.

    Hi from the midlands

Me and d8 don't always see eye to eye, but these are very wise words about the general use of ebikes. A lot of the electrical stuff is lost on me, but no doubt it's also correct.

    BBS01 in the Alps

Not for long enough to work out ideal climbing cadence. In broad brush terms, the BBS01 seemed to have about the same amount of poke as my Bosch bikes. Several posters have talked about heat build up in the BBS01. Not encouraging for an Alpine application, where the climbs are known more for...

    Best bike for....

A mate of mine had a boat for a while, smallish, but it had a cabin and somewhere to sleep. He got fed up with the running costs, a day trip to Hartlepool - about 15 miles in the car - cost him £100+ in fuel for the boat.

It would be a very dull forum if we were all the same, so more power to your (sometimes mischievous) elbow. You've also supplied lots of members with bikes they are very happy with, and you spend a lot of time and money on developing the product - not easy for a relatively small business. Much...

    Help & Advice Please.

Strictly, it's 'no public access' which makes things a bit harder. As an example, a field you own sounds good, but it needs to be properly hedged or fenced, and gated. Even better, there should be a lock on the gate. Your private forest would be more fun to ride in, but it is vanishingly...

    BBS01 in the Alps

Riding any ebike unpowered is horrid, particularly so for a keen cyclist used to the unique pleasure of riding a lightweight bicycle. Even a powered ebike cannot match that. It will help you up hills, but don't expect too much from a 250w legal ebike. On 20 per cent gradients there will still...

Good response from the police, they turned out and did something. Regrettably, sometimes they do neither. I suspect this clown was given a Police Information Notice. http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN06411

Reliable commuter machine + Sheffield Hills

The Raleigh Captus is similar to the Motus, but is cheaper mostly because of its smaller capacity battery. Your route has a moderate amount of climbing, so the smaller battery ought to do the 18 mile round trip. Hub gears tend to cost a few quid more, but whatever you buy, don't buy a NuVinci...

    Nyon software update April 2016

From what I gather about Nyon, getting any of it to work on the bike would be a step forward.

    Spare battery?

Don't overthink it. A 10ah battery will give you proportionally fewer miles compared to the 12ah. You say you get just under 40 miles from the 12ah one in hilly conditions. That's about what I'd expect from a legal ebike - they are all much the same when it comes to power consumption. The...

    Warranty advice

Have you tried a seat or two? Some are designed to allow clearance for the cable for a front mech. The cable runs down the rear of the tube on some bikes. A gear cable isn't as thick as a battery cable, but clearance is clearance - if there's enough of it.

    Warranty advice

I may have lost track, but can the OP fit a seat which clamps to the down tube to the Cube? They are sprung by the support bracket, so the seat itself would be an inch or two clear of the rear carrier/battery. This Thule one is not cheap, but there are plenty which are cheaper...

Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro/Bosch CX 500wh

The Bosch motor is known to be difficult to tinker with, so in the absence of a smaller cassette, I think you may be stuck. Your bike has 27.5" wheels, so a 29er on the back would raise the gearing. But from the internet pics, there's not sufficient clearance for a bigger wheel, and in any...

    CREE Front Lights

The B&M light is adequate for an unlit cycle path, but probably not up to a forest trail on which you'd want more grunt and more of a flood-style light. I'm not convinced by the reliability of cheap Cree lights, although some users report good service from them. The Hope lights on my mate's...
