    Chain cleaning

It occurred to me you may as well use the pikey method - a syringe strapped to the top tube and a long thin pipe to the chain front mech. A squirt of a mil every 3 miles, as mentioned on the Scottoiler site, would be more than adequate. Btw, in many years of using Scottoilers on motorcycles (and...

Oxygen looking for part time technician-engineer

I had an initial spark of interest - but two things dissuaded me. 1. I'm in Ireland - not so easy to service the UK. 2. If my workshop was full of fairly expensive e-bikes, it wouldn't be long before it wasn't full of fairly expensive e-bikes and the local markets would have some for sale.

    Chargers !

I'd be interested in one for my own battery - the Bosch charger I have definitely doesn't like charging up more packs in parallel than it was designed for. If the picture is accurate regarding what you're supplied with, I'd cut off the supplied 13A plug and put a decent one on - the fitted one...

    drinking and cycling

When I heard of that particular piece of Draconian legislation being enacted, I was pretty hacked off. It flies in the face of my sense of justice - ie, the punishment/crime fitting paradigm. To link loss of driving licence with any other offence than that committed during driving is, to my...

Heard about the chef who caught his willy in the dishwasher? Manager walked in, fired her too.

    Chain cleaning

I brush it with paraffin, then lube with ATF or motor oil, whatever's to hand. Nowadays the missus seems to dislike the dishwasher being used to clean engine bits. I don't understand it myself.

    Probably a dumb question

Far too cheap - they'll be repackaged used laptop cells with a very dodgy chance of setting your house on fire.

Just what I was looking for.

I was looking for exactly that, last year. I found some 11T ones all right, but there would have been a problem with space - not enough. The 11T was outside the normal and was, in effect, an add-on to the cluster. I wondered if a cluster could be made from scratch as a 3 or 5 speed, but from...

    Lightweight trailer

How's it standing up to general use? I'm taken by the price of that, and I see there are four cosmetically damaged ones for sale at £42.

    Kaylad Electric Tricycle

Someone with balance issues and/or needs carrying capacity yet doesn't fancy a trailer. It's as ugly as a dog's foodbowl, though

Would you ride an e-bike without mudguards

I don't ride any bike without mudguards. At the moment, my bike has no front 'guard, but not for lack of trying to find one.

I'm no engineer but plain ol common sense says this is madness.....

Auto-rotate on choppers isn't all that, anyway. A friend of mine was killed doing that.

    Lifespan of an ebike?

If I had a proprietary e-bike and a major component went on the fritz, I'd look at replacing it with a generic; no shortage of Chinese parts out there. Batteries - just re-cell them. My home-build is in a constant state of flux anyway, as I add and remove bits as the mood suits. For my next...

    Probably a dumb question

Essentially, that's all they are. The major difference is that every cell is spot-welded to its neighbours in series/parallel configuration. To have cells that are easily individually replaceable wouldn't really be feasible as they'd be rotten with bad connections and prone to shorts - something...

    BMW integrates e-bike with e-car

What came after; the Toyota Foggy and the Mitsubishi Clegg?

With enough compact power, it would work, yes. Why does that picture remind me of 'Flubber'?

Want a KTM Macina Cross 51cm or 46cm crossbar. however.....

I've bought loads of stuff from ebay Germany over the years and never had a problem. Google translate for the first contact, but more often than not the seller prefers to use English. I did sometimes wonder if the early google translations were a bit off, and might have led to some horribly...

Old electric car Blast from the past

I suspect all was not as it seemed. Also, I suspect the charging lead was plugged into a light socket upstairs :)

    Legal or not?

My point is - a mechanically propelled vehicle without any mechanical propulsion is just a chicken shed with wheels. It's an object, not a car or motorcycle. If one breaks down and the owner/occupant is trying his damnedest to get the heap off the road, he should not be pilloried for trying to...
