2 Wheel Drive in the snow

I finally managed to try my 2WD Rocky Mountain in the snow today. I've been ill, so missed most of the fun, but now I'm well enough to do short distances.

I took the bike down and up our 14% (measured) test hill. The snow is just starting to thaw, so a bit slushy and very slippery. I came up the hill slowly without pedalling. The front wheel slipped and span a few times, but the bike felt quite safe and controllable. I had my feet up all the time. It was quite scary going down because there wasn't any way to slow down.

That is good Dave, a pity you weren't able to try it before the snow started thawing since it would have been so much better then. I've enjoyed my 4 wheel drive car in the deep snow on my 14% hill, but as you say, it doesn't help downhill when things can get scary. Some of the Land Rover range have controlled descent, a system that prevents any wheel from locking when going downhill and that's apparently a great help according to those who've tried it.

Which reminds me...

So quite a few years ago, Mrs Old_Dave had to come and collect me in the Jeep as the slush had frozen and there was sheet ice every where... she lost it going down a bit of as hill and every thing went horribly sideways, "WHAT SHALL I DO" she screamed... I replied "taking your foot of the f'ing brake might help" ... and it did
