    Tyre width

Not much point in worrying about wheel (or tyre) weight on an ebike. Getting stuff that will do the job is the only important factor.

    Cyclotricity Revolver review

Makes sense. You do have a bike so there's no rush, and you want to be sure your next cycle purchase decision is the right one. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Another option would be to consider a push bike. You have been cycling for a few months now, so will have built up a little bike fitness. Your commute is only 5.5miles, so you would only have to face pedalling for about 30 minutes, or even a bit less. I don't know how steep your hills are...

    Cyclotricity Revolver review

There's a £900 one that's almost as good, and I expect Halfords could work the figures to get the £1,099 onto the scheme, even if you have to pay the £99 cash. EBCO are also sold in bike shops, which is where I tried the bike. I know the owner of the shop would juggle the figures to put the...

    More Battery talk (sorry folks)

I'd seen your posts about Panasonic batteries lasting years, but never grasped the reason. Thanks again.

    Cyclotricity Revolver review

I wont try to manage your finances, but is the Cycle to Work scheme an option? Many employers offer it, although I had to make several inquiries at my place of work to find the details. Even if you are restricted to Halfords, they have EBCO bikes. There's a £1,099 one which I reckon would do...

    Cyclotricity Revolver review

As you've worked out, you have a cheap (and nasty) bike with a budget motor kit. I doubt it will ever be reliable. Your commute at 11 miles is doable, but is still relatively hard on any bicycle's components day in, day out. So you need something decent which will do the job. Do you have any...

    Split Rim??? Freego Eagle

Yes, that's beyond bodging. We once tried to keep a blown tyre on a rim using cable ties. As we inflated the tyre, the cable ties popped off. Goes to show there's quite a bit of force created by inflating a tube. I suppose that's the reason why firefighters use the same principle to lift...

    More Battery talk (sorry folks)

I've been wondering why my Bosch batteries have not suffered any noticeable drop in capacity. So my slightly weedy crank drive is kinder to them. Of course, the batteries will inevitably decline at some point, but I like it when things make sense.

    Woosh Big Bear

I bumped into a lass I vaguely know on the trail a while ago. She was on a Scott mountain bike which had no front brake. "Might be worth getting that sorted," I ventured. "But I like skidding to a stop," she replied. Good answer, and one for which I, for once, had no reply.

Neither flecc nor I are advocating using just the front brake - that is a recipe for a fall or trip over the bars. But the braking balance is very heavily in favour of the front.

Herts - A new company I had not heard of

Mat, Did I or the OP say the people loading the lorry were Polish? But while you are on, my kitchen tap is leaking, so could you pop round one day to fix it?

E-Bikeshop charge ahead with Gocycle G2 in the South of England

You could part-ex the Birdy. Do it on the quiet and Mrs C will think you still have only three bikes.

Kudos Eiger NuVinci now £1265 and Derailleur now only £799

I am aware the problem is not caused by power, it is caused by poor design of the motor and controller. There is a technique for smooth changes on a Bosch bike, but if you don't bother, all you get is clonky changes, not a damaged derailleur. Your offer of £100 is good for a crank drive motor...

Herts - A new company I had not heard of

I expect the 200 bikes were nicked and what the OP happened across was the thieves handballing them into a lorry for swift - and unofficial - export to Poland.

And a tough hub drive because the ruddy thing routinely busts derailleurs.

Herts - A new company I had not heard of

Croxden, All I meant was the company in the link is not the company referred to by the OP because it's in the wrong place. They might have a branch in Hertfordshire which routinely sells 200 bikes to Poland, but it doesn't look like it.

    Woosh Big Bear

As flecc says, when you brake most of your weight and the weight of the bike goes to the front wheel. Thus the back wheel is in very light contact with the road and will only support limited braking before it skids. The front, on t'other hand, is pushed into firm contact with the road, so the...

Herts - A new company I had not heard of

Something not quite right somewhere. The OP says the company is 'on his doorstep' and the thread title mentions Hertfordshire. The company in the link is in Stoke, Staffordshire. http://www.electric-bike-conversions.co.uk/acatalog/buying_from_electric_bike_conversions.html

It will probably look cheap when/if a factory Brompton ebike appears.
