    gates belt drive

Given my experience of the Alfine 11, I would say that is the weak point of the bike's transmission. http://www.50cycles.com/electric-bikes/speed/endeavour_s11_premium.html

looking for a pedelec for commuting to work and back

For three miles consider a push bike. If you want an ebike, it's pointless looking for 40km/h, or anything over the usual 25km/h - it will make no useful difference to the elapsed time over such a short journey.

    What a blinking good idea!

Lack of standardisation, poor visibility, and the fact there's no culture of cyclists using orange indicator lights make these gadgets useless bordering on dangerous.

Which lights and Pannier Bags do you recommend

Get the bike first and look at it carefully. Some panniers can be hard to fit on rack mounted battery ebikes because there's insufficient clearance between the battery and the bars of the rack. Particularly so if the pannier has chunky hooks. A 'throw over' linked pair of panniers will fit...

    Guilty feelings

I ride with an unpowered group on Sundays and am careful not to rub their noses in the extra power of the ebike. Proves nothing, and I would only have to wait longer at the regular regroups. What I have done a few times is pacemake for the leaders, which they appreciate, particularly when...

    Haibike xduro SL trekking bike

Typical good quality, well-equipped German trekking bike. Good on the road and well-made paths, but don't expect mega grip on anything slippery. The closely fitted mudguards will also clog in mud. It almost certainly has a version of Schwalbe's Marathon tyres which are hard wearing and offer...

    My BBS01 conversion

I agree you need to proceed with caution. The required indent is between the bottom bracket weld and the chainstay brace, so the area is well supported. I would be inclined to give it a go. I've no idea what the thickness of the tube will be at this point, but you might be lucky and be able...

    Giant Replacement

The static pad stays a fraction away from the disc, so there's no rubbing when the brakes are not applied. Occasional adjustment is required, which can be fiddly - another reason why hydraulics are superior. There is a model or two of cable operated disc in which both pads move, but yours is...

    Giant Replacement

The bedded in performance of a disc brake can be significantly better than straight out of the box. Light braking is not good for bedding in, and can glaze the pads. If you want to encourage the process, do two or three emergency stops, hopefully without falling off. As has been said, some...

    Interesting.

As a Nano owner, I can confirm this is correct. The weight of the motor and controller wrecks the carrying prospect of a Brompton, which is borderline anyway. A 10ah battery is, of course, heavy, and it doesn't leave much room in even a big Brommie bag. The Nano is very nicely engineered...

    my first electric bike????

Aye, that was him (presumably). I always had his name down in my mind as hic.

    my first electric bike????

I've heard of regular posters on a forum who will create a couple of aliases so they can have an argument and make their regular identity win.

    my first electric bike????

What was the name of the poster who made no secret of posting after having a few? His contributions were amusing, which was the only reason he made them.

    Stock or Haibike

I agree with your comment about quality. No doubt you've thought of it, but a Scott or Cube Bosch bike would have the added benefit of giving you interchangeable batteries.

    Stock or Haibike

My Rose, like your Delite, handles badly in even light mud, as does the MH7. So I've also been thinking about a mountain bike. If money were no object, I would be taking a very close look at Rotwild. The Focus from 50 Cycles looks a good prospect to me, not least because of the 17ah battery...

    warranties

You may have heard that in the case of new cars. Routinely, in the EU cars have a two year warranty. In the UK, they have three years. As flecc says, that's down to the importer/manufacturer. For whatever reason, the UK new car market has a recent tradition of three year warranties. Some...

Statement from Bosch in relation to Classic line motors

Both Martin and Col are very committed to driving their businesses forward. They show that in different ways, but I applaud the commitment of both of them. I'm sure Martin's claim to be the UK's biggest Haibike dealer is correct, and I'm sure Col has pushed KTM up the ebike pecking order...

    Bosch Nyon tuning dongle

Name the hook wriggling dealer I say - bet it was a KTM one, that Col seems to want to blame dongles for everything from corked wine to crop failure.

    Tow bar bike carriers

I'm impressed with all the posters who seem able to get these rack contraptions loaded and unloaded in minutes. The handful of people in the flesh I've spoken to have all said loading and unloading the carrier is a bit of a faff. Not to mention hoiking the carrier itself onto the tow ball.

    warranties

Yes, because there's more profit in a higher end bike the retailer/maker can afford to be more generous. This will impact particularly on those close 'warranty or not' calls, making them more likely to go in the customer's favour.
