    Stock or Haibike

I tried a Storck bike with the same hub motor - I think - as fitted to the bike you are thinking of buying. It was whisper quiet, but weak. Storcks are among the best finished bikes, which makes them very desirable. Not sure a multi-road is what you want. You may find the Storck doesn't...

    real off roader?

I like the Oxygen MTB. It also has a slightly bigger battery than some of the others, which I regard as a good benefit. The Volt can also be specced with a big battery, but I'm not too keen on the behind the seat post mount, particularly for trails. The longer wheel base cannot be very agile...

Chinese AKKU Bosch Battery first test

Bike Discount has Bosch Classic 11ah batteries for £460. http://www.bike-discount.de/en/praesenz/search/q-ebike+battery?q=ebike+battery Still a lot of money, but a bit less than they were.

    real off roader?

Cube offer hardtail and full sus bikes which ought to do the job. http://www.cube.eu/uk/bikes/hybrid/ Another option is Focus, sold by 50 Cycles. I've looked at one of the hard tails and would describe it as a proper mountain bike. http://www.50cycles.com/electric-bikes/offroad.html None of...

    Tow bar bike carriers

Tow ball carriers are reckoned to be the best solution. No doubt Thule will be as good as any. I know two people who use them regularly - not sure which brand. Both told me it's a faff to secure the bikes, particularly if you follow the instructions and deploy all the various straps and...

    Newbie in the Hills

Those couple of extra ah on the 12ah battery would be worth having. But there's no need to worry about charging at work for battery health. Batteries don't like to be run dead flat, but you won't be doing that on the round trip, particularly if you have 12ah to start with.

Confused about the range of a folding bike...

At your weight, even unfit, I cannot see you needing a spare charger. Some ebikes belonging to us guys have to drag along nearly twice as much as bulk. My Bosch bikes have 11ah batteries, so a tiny bit bigger than the one on the folder you are thinking of. But just to illustrate how wide...

Confused about the range of a folding bike...

I had no cycling fitness at all when I bought my 10ah Brompton Nano, but managed round trips of a little over 20 miles on it. At your height, you must be a fair bit lighter than me, so for that reason alone I think you will be OK from day one on a 10ah bike. Nothing to stop you taking the...

    Invisible Bike

I suspect the car driver saw Phil, but decided to try to beat him across the junction. Pulling into a declining gap is never a good idea, and the car driver failed to judge Phil's speed. He's bowling along well, but a roadie could have been going as fast or faster.

    Kalkhoff

There could be other small differences on a German market bike, which the OP may prefer or not. Stuff like display language can usually be set by the user, but he might get a German language handbook. I would check the charger to make sure it will run on UK voltage.

Make sure you get a left hand drive one.

Haibike SDURO FullNine RX or SDURO AllMtn RC

Some wrinkles may emerge with the Yamaha motor, but there are some with the Bosch, which is your alternative so you would be no better off. I think the majority of Bosch motors are reliable - I've had no bother with my two - and I would expect the Yamaha motor to be the same.

Haibike bosch2014 chain on front cog issue

Not the first report of chain suck on the small Bosch front ring. I wonder if suck is more likely because of the smaller ring. The chain must be following a tighter radius than it would on a more conventional set up.

    Trying out Velocious

An invoice - or even credit card receipt - should be sufficient for the warranty. Edit: Crossed post with trex.

Not getting any better out there on the roads

Part of the problem is if you made your suggestion on a general cycling forum you would get a volley of posts bellowing 'victim blaming'. Not to mention those who wouldn't like your entirely reasonable observation about the larger proportion of women who have been involved in the fatalities.

Not getting any better out there on the roads

This sounds harsh, but I read a witness statement from a cyclist who was behind the most fatality in Victoria. Taken at face value, which I think you can in this case, the guy said the truck was indicating left and he heard its audible warning bleeper. Despite this, the cyclist trundled up the...

Convert a Kona Cinder Cone to an electric bike; please help!

I don't doubt d'huez is a bit of a beast, getting up it on an ordinary bike is a good effort. I also don't doubt your girlfriend's need for an ebike. The problem with advice for a specific task is there are so many variables. In this case, rider input is important, which no one trying to sell...

Convert a Kona Cinder Cone to an electric bike; please help!

The Alpine climbs are not particularly steep, just long. You mention a battery in your last line, when that's the first thing you should be thinking about. Almost any motor will do the job for you, almost any battery will not. What you need to work out is how much battery capacity you will...

Wondering if an e-bike is for me...

The site is worth a look, but range calculation is no more than common sense. Hills and headwinds make a huge difference, and it's impossible to predict the latter. Being on the edge of capacity range is a constant nuisance. I might be almost certain that I can manage a particular ride on one...

    New

Frank went the journey around the same time as a couple of other members. There appears to be no way back for any of them. But of course, that's one for the management.
