E-Bike suitable for towing Special Needs Trailer

It does make me think that a crank drive would be suitable, assuming that you are happy with the way the gear changes work. Something like the Woosh Sant-and CD . Failing that, something with a BPM hub motor. Edit: Crossed with Trex. He always recommends a Woosh. In this case he's got a...

E-Bike suitable for towing Special Needs Trailer

You will need something with a lot of torque, but I'm guessing top speed is less of a concern?

How do you suggest they fit a cut out switch?

    Trek Conversion query

So, for 27 speed (9 at the back) you need a cassette motor. You need some kind of cutoff. Others have done custom cutouts switches on the brakes, but I haven't. You would only need this if the throttle failed and you didn't want your motor to burn out, so not really a safety thing as your...

    Trek Conversion query

Yes, I've done one. What model and you planning to convert? Get some pictures up and we can help. What brakes, how big is the triangle, how many gears and how much power. All important considerations for a rear wheel conversion.

I thought Ebikes were totally banned in New York?

    oxygen torque?

Another way to think about it is that for a fixed amount of power you can have lots of torque at low speed, or high speed with little torque. Put a bike into its lowest gear. It won't go very fast, but will climb well. Opposite in high gear.

    Alternative Lithium battery use

The thing with boats (on flat water) is that they don't go fast, and never go uphill. So weight is much less of a concern. An 85ah leisure battery won't cost much more than £80. That's a lot if bang for your buck. (500Wh of usable energy) Obviously packing the thing away etc you want it to as...

    New Gtech ebike

Agreed. Those bars are just wrong, and spoil the lines of that lovely GT (or GT inspired) frame. Easily changed for £20 though.

    New Gtech ebike

As has been mentioned in the other thread, if you only use 6-7 Wh/mile there's not a lot of point in the added weight, cost and complications of an electric bike. It's at least borderline. The Gtech guys use this same figure to calculate it's range, which I think is misleading. They are...

    New Gtech ebike

Yes, but the claim of 30 miles range is ridiculous. As Kudos Dave says, 12Wh/mile is a good real word figure. That gives it a range of about 16 miles.

    New Gtech ebike

It'll be interesting, but ultimately it will only prove how efficiently YOU can ride an electric bike. I guarantee I could drain that to LVC in 10 miles or less.

5.5 aH. As KD says, lucky if you get 15 miles. That'll be why the are so vague on the website then.

    New Gtech ebike

Those battery indicators are normally a long way out, in an optimistic way because they measure voltage. Voltage drop/capacity is not linear on any battery, but with lithium batteries the non linearity is even worse. I can't find the battery capacity on the web page (which is full of BS) and I...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

That's a low powered hub motor (Bafang SWX I think) and its running at legal power levels, around 15 amps peak. With a CST/BPM at 30 amps it would be a very different thing.

    Hosehold appliance wiring colours?

Part of a long email chain discussing specifications for an effluent treatment plant. It made me chuckle: "....Correct me if I’m wrong but Black is now used for the following voltages!! Phase L2 (240vac) – Black Control 110vac (L) – Black Control 110vac (N) - Black Control 0vdc – Black This...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

As I said before, I suspect a geared hub motor would be the best answer. How far and fast do you want to go, and how much do you weigh?

Donor bikes - what to look for?

DD is not for you then. Not enough torque, unless you are very light. In my opinion, BPM/CST would suit you best. It s important to understand that power and torque are different things. Power = Speed x Torque So, for a given amount of power you can have lots of one, lots of the other, or a...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

Mid drives have never been my thing, so I can't really comment. As I understand it, mid (aka crank) drives are more suited to the cycling enthusiast. D8veh has a good ready reckoning method to determine if CD is a good idea for you: When you ride a bike do you wear special clothing? If the...
