    Torque sensor v speed sensor

Torque simulation is what I'm after for my light assist bike. Does it use a speed sensor, or is it just constant current? Thanks for the explanation.

    Next project: light assist bike

I'm not really interested in downhill speed. This bike is not for sport, but fitness. (Such as it is!) I have plenty of other toys to get my speed kick from, I'm only getting rid of my CST kit because I don't use it and it doesn't give me enough exercise. So, I think I'll stay at 26, at least...

    Next project: light assist bike

My use of 'Steep' is probably wrong to be fair. I can conquer them on the manual 29er, it just knackers me so much that I can't do much more, then I won't re-attempt for months. I think 201 rpm would be OK in 29er, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort to rebuild the wheel. What's your...

    Next project: light assist bike

I've been messing with electric bikes for a few years now, and as a result I'm a bit fitter than I was before. Still no superman, but I regularly cycle un-powered. Problem is anywhere from my house involves some kind of steep hill. It puts me off and gives me an excuse to sit on my (slightly...

I tried one a few years back. I was prepared to love it, but I also hated it.

need some help on BMS kit

I had a controller from BMSb that simply refused to do PAS. I tried known working sensors/discs, in all possible orientations. I tested and traced the pins, so I was sure which was +5v, 0v and signal. I even simulated it on the bench. I gave up with that one and used it on one of my throttle...

hi names dave from coventry england

Dave From Coventry is a good example of the sort of rude tosser that I'm becoming ever increasingly frustrated with. You sign up, ask a question, then cannot be bothered even to acknowledge the responses you get. The people on here are prepared to give free, unbiased advice, and you don't have...

kits and matching the other wheel

Yup, I've done similarly on a few conversions. Much easier to remove if needed.

kits and matching the other wheel

In my opinion, good rim brakes are fine for the average punter on the road. I have a number of bikes, both electric and manual with V-brakes. I'm heavy, and I ride in a spirited manner. I also have mech disk brakes (pain in the R's) and hydraulic disks which are great.

    Upgrading batribike motor

It's not as straightforward as you might think. If you upgrade the motor you will not get any more power without a new controller to give it more power. If you do that your battery probably won't keep up. So, you will need a motor, controller and battery. You'd be better off selling the...

What are you getting on that Giant? At what point would you ditch the electric assist?

    Chargers, all the same ?

And the voltage, and the cutoff point. Chargers are actually quite different for different battery technologies. Some charge at a constant voltage (SLA) and simply allow the voltage to equalise. Others (nimh) look for a voltage drop which occurs at the end of charging. Some charges use a...

I think you mean Wh/k, which would be just over 10Wh/m.

    E-bike Build - UK law

What is stamped on the motor? That's the really important bit, as the law states that the motor may not have a continuous rating above 250w.

Go Faster Dongles! Here's another to consider

Its not a complicated as all that. The motor must not have a continuous rating of more than 250W. This rating is decided by the manufacturer, and has nothing to do with voltage or current... There is no maximum power limit for a pedelec. I have seen legal pedelecs that can pull 25 amps at 42...

E-Bike suitable for towing Special Needs Trailer

Don't worry. SW has a different kind of 'off road' in mind. When you say 'off road' I take it you mean 'not actually on a road'. Possibly some gravel and the odd puddle. SW is thinking about full suspension, rocks/roots/jumps/berms, adrenaline, broken bones and high fives all round dude! In...

E-Bike suitable for towing Special Needs Trailer

If you are riding a bike on your own, with no throttle that's one thing. You can always screech to a halt, throw it the ground and run away. If you are towing a vulnerable person behind, likely using a throttle, it's a different matter.
