What to do with expired batteries?

I think Wisper recover them and may even give a discount on new batteries for an old one. There is cobalt, copper, nickel and iron in the lithium-ion batteries (but not lithium!) - they don't provide as much recoverable metal as other kinds but they do have some recycling value.

...not something you see every day...

doesn't current EU law state that if some/all of the final assembly is carried out in an EU nation then its "made" in that nation? There are Dell computers at work marked "Made In Ireland" when of course 99% of the components all come from China...

    Wisper 905se sport.......Brakes

I hope you do! Do not worry about your English, as it is better than some fo the young people in England  - I'm sure if you give an answer and there is any confusion due to language barriers that all the people here will help to clear up this confusion.. I am half Chinese myself - my...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

I agree with this in the present time and with the current demographics of e-bikers. at the moment, people in their 30s and 40s are "the kids" :D and as I said most of us have grown up "enough" to know how to get away with certain things in a safer fashion.. ;) IMO its not skint teenagers who...

    Powacycle Salisbury Brakes

changing over the brake was fairly simple, it seemed to be a straight replacement. I used the original Powacycle cable when I changed it over, the LBS replaced it a few months later as part of a service. I don't know what they used and their paperwork unfortunately wasn't very clearly completed...

    Wisper 905se sport.......Brakes

I feel a bit sorry for Wisper as this has occured just as presumably their main staff are at the London cycle show - but then again you cant' take your eye off the ball in business.. to be fair they do seem to have a policy of continuous improvement - for instance I would not have got a 905SE...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

Assuming they can actually get to this forum and it isn't blocked out by the "blunt instrument" web filters used in Government offices! Contrary to popular misconception Civil Servants actually have a fairly high workload and there is little benefit in them doing this and making extra work for...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

I haven't cycled in that area for years but wouldn't keeping up a constant speed of 18/19mph in some areas during busy times on any sort of bike require a potentially more aggressive form of riding which could attract their attention anyway? I found in Reading when I rode a fast tourer that...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

in the 1990s a similar thing was tried with cannabis - and despite the usual amount of bitter opposition, there was nearly some minor success with half-hearted attempts at a tolerant stance based on that of some nations across the North Sea.. Then some greedy/stupid folks popularised a faster...

    Powacycle Salisbury Brakes

thats the exact model I changed the front brake on my Powacycle Salisbury for. I did not change the brake lever as it contains the switch (plus it would have been a lot of extra work anyway). It did improve matters greatly and when a LBS changed the cable made things even better. shortly...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

Could be any competitor TBH - even the ones who are like "friendly enemies". TBH it could just be a "private citizen" but I've not heard of any yet being knocked down by a derestricted e-bike, bear in mind also company employees can also act in the capacity of a "private citizen".. The "beauty"...

    Powacycle Technician

my intention wasn't to scare anyone but to try and avoid a potentially negative/embarrassing situation for what appears to be a decent British company - and also to judge whether this company is a forward-thinking progressive one before I encourage more people to spend their money there. I am a...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

its an obscure and rather unclear note tacked on the end of a "code of conduct for cyclists" intended to be posted as a sign on the start of such places like Sustrans routes. [ARCHIVED CONTENT] Department for Transport - Annex D: Code of Conduct Notice for Cyclists

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

been thinking a bit more about this and I smell a rat.. Found a few older versions of DfT leaflet from the mid 2000s and the off road button is not mentioned, despite many bikes without it being capable of higher speeds... It has however made its way into 2009 leaflets. Being a former Civil...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

even then I would only expect / hope (?) that would only occur if other citizens whined about it or you were blatantly going way too fast for the road conditions or riding on the footpaths or any other place you shouldn't be. IMO the real issue with go-peds, monkey bikes and other mini-moto...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

what about if drug dealing illegal immigrants wearing hoodies were to start using high powered e-bikes as courier and getaway vehicles? whilst I'm being slightly facetious this concept isn't even as outlandish as you might think... high end mountain bikes were many drug dealers vehicles of...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

depends firstly on if the cops do start taking notice, however a bike without the obvious button looks normal whether or not it is being ridden unrestricted, the only difference being the speed which as others pointed out is hard to judge anyway. TBH I don't think it makes a massive difference...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

I agree with this (especially having owned a radio scanner in the pre airwave days ). I certainly do not feel "out of control" nor "unsafe" at 15-20mph, as I used to regularly do that sort of speed on my unpowered pushbikes in far more crowded areas of SE England. Nor do I feel that I...

Directgov advice about "off road" buttons

round here there's the highest traffic presence I have seen outside metpol area, though to be fair they seem to be concentrating on motorists. TBH I think the real issue is going to be the quality of people's riding and whether they are involved in RTC's against pedestrians or other cyclists at...
