    Different experiences near Bath.

fair enough. I am younger, not white and though I am not a big guy (about the same height and build as flecc) I can understand (though its a shame its come to this) why in the present climate if some folks are angry and may even feel "intimidated" by my presence if I say hello to them - trying...

    Different experiences near Bath.

psychopaths don't have a standard appearance nor look like something out of a horror movie  in all seriousness if you ride in the same area most of the time and this is recent then some event may have changed peoples attitudes. That said I even looked on the Police and local news...

    A very sad tale

I've seen the aftermath of car vs pedestrian/cyclist RTCs and because of this am less paranoid about taking "assertive" road positions, particularly with older owners of high value cars and even with many younger gary boys/girls. Even if the drivers hate you and do not feel you should be there...

    A very sad tale

to put it further into perspective there are also some much bleaker and sadder tales - in todays Britain a young lady of that age is at far more risk of being hurt or even killed by someone she considered to be a soulmate or a friend, than a stranger, either on or off the roads. A lot of young...

    Wisper workshop toolkit?

I managed to get the Park tools 3 way spoke key on the recommendation of people from here and this has the correct size for the 13g nipples..

    Bottom Bracket Seizure

I started a thread in the Wisper clinic about workshop tools, maybe its worth adding it onto there?

    Cytronex tips

I get these emails of "special offers" from places like Wiggle and from looking at them its perfectly possible the dude you overtook could well have spent much more on his :D. I know one guy at work spent £1300 on a MTB frame alone and then had to purchase the rest of the bits...

    A very sad tale

The estimates I've seen of RTC costs have been much less than £2m per life but still not insignificant. A significant proportion of the younger folks at work and who I go partying with have lost friends in RTCs, ironically none of them were on bicycles! Nearly all were young folks in high...

    A very sad tale

although some gets spent on rubbish millenium domes and ill-advised warfare in foreign lands, I do often wonder how much of our taxes are in fact used up clearing up after RTC's like the above and all the others involving every form of road user? I read somewhere (may even have been a motoring...

    A very sad tale

Other than in 13 years time the son may probably do worse when he starts driving, and even then his family will stand by him  A similar incident to what happened to the unfortunate young lady occured when I lived in Reading. Luckily(!) the lad involved got catapulted into a rubbish skip...

    Shimano dynamo light bulb.

The dynamo lamp is no longer issued with 2009 Wispers (a shame IMO) but I remember some years ago reading articles claiming that fast (unpowered) riders often got through more bulbs as the dynamos overloaded them. Wispers are fast so maybe this is the case?

    Any bike lock recommendations?

People in Suffolk lock up £1000+ bikes with cable locks that would last 3 minutes in any of the above cities. Being originally from London/SE England it still shocks me to see this practice. Some less valuable bikes were left unlocked altogether until 2006 or so when gangs from London made the...

    Wisper workshop toolkit?

I have decided that I am going to try and be as self sufficient as possible for bike maintenance - I already do a certain amount myself and its really only stuff like spoke tensioning, re-truing and replacing large drive train components I use mechanics for, although these are skills I intend to...

Wisper 905SE City (2009) pedelec sensor - "bug" or "feature"?

Update : the pedelec function has worked fine today :) - clearly something "jammed up the works" earlier on. Hopefully it will now stay working (if kept clean) as pulling the cranks is going to be a bit of extra work but I am curious as to whether anyone has experienced this issue? on the...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

There is also the issue of those of us who have no local dealer of e-bikes - and by local in cycling terms I mean within 5-10 miles i.e somewhere you could ride a machine requiring service too.. So I got my Wisper 905SE from e-bikes direct and I was happy with the pre-sales service, responses...

    Ecoelectric Bike

how do you know you are genuinely getting a LiFePO4 battery? it is like buying a pig in a poke, and this company isn't exactly known for business ethics. IIRC the "cycleman" was someone who worked for Wisper, got fired for poor performance/teamwork and stole the frame design, and also seems to...

Wisper 905SE City (2009) pedelec sensor - "bug" or "feature"?

Over the past week or so i had noticed an intermittent power delivery on pedelec mode when I was in "stop start" type of traffic. it had gone mostly unnoticed because I tend to use the throttle more (whilst still pedalling) but started to get particularly bad in the last few days. On closer...

...not something you see every day...

I thought Wazz and Humayan Mughal are from Pakistan - I remember them from other dealings in the electronics industry. I have heard rumours that Powacycle was a smaller company which Akther Electronics bought up a few years ago, and then improved some of the safety aspects of the Chinese...

...not something you see every day...

actually one thing I find admirable with both Powacycle and Wisper is that they are both 100% honest about explaining how the bikes are designed in the UK but manufactured in China... provided the quality remains up to standard I don't have a problem with this (and Wisper's full transparency...

    Bottom Bracket Seizure

from which models was this implemented? My 2009 model looks like it has a sealed BB but I am not 100% sure, and forgot to ask the mechanic at the weekend as I have already done 300 miles and had the spoke check and re-tensioning done as well as the torque on the crank arms checked.
