I've always put my battery straight on charge as soon as I'm back from a ride. The battery does get a good workout, so is probably still pretty warm when it gets put on the charger. The question is, should I allow the battery to settle for a period of time before charging? I know...

I'm gonna give Frank's nuts a go :p I rarely need to remove the wheel from the bike, maybe every third year to replace the tyre, so I'm only after a fit and forget solution. The Nyloc's will give some peace of mind.

Exactly what I was looking at. I was corrected on ES, that the MAC uses an M14 nut.

I think they meant the automotive nuts are deeper in size, so more threads contacting the axle. I realise now that changing the thread count would create a problem, and I posted a question on ES that probably makes me look really dumb to our friends in America :eek:

I did throw this one on the Endless Sphere forum, but wanted to get as many opinions as possible: I'm after top quality nuts to fit the axle on a rear MAC motor. The supplied nuts seem to have quite a bit of free play, and I fear that the thread will strip at some stage whilst tightening...

I'm not in any way trying to start an argument over this, but say I went to the post office and declared I wanted to send a lithium battery through Royal Mail. So they print off a label with the correct warnings and identifying marks, then attach it to the parcel. Parcel goes off as normal...

Interesting read Dave, thanks. Moving slightly away from the aircraft theme but staying with lithium fires. If an e-bike battery were to ignite in ones home, what would be the safest and best way to either control the fire, or extinguish it completely?

I think it's all a bit of scaremongering from the Civil Aviation Authority, who by the way, aren't squeaky clean when it comes to battery transportation :eek: For decades, people have been sending batteries all over the UK with nary a peep out of the CAA. I believe we're even talking about...

Thanks for your reply David. So it looks like the actual procedure of carrying goods through the system isn't changing, just the awareness to the workers handling the goods, that it could be a bit risky to kick the package about ;)

Sorry if this has been already covered recently, but with Royal Mail clamping down extensively on the transport of lithium batteries within the UK, what are the alternatives?

Indeed, many of us couldn't live without them, but don't rely on them holding your 7kg battery for long on a rear rack ;)
