    V-brakes. PITA to adjust :(

No, I don't think corrosion is the issue. I occasionally give the nipples a quick squirt of MUC OFF bike spray, just to protect them. I've heard that it's common for spokes to snap at the axle end due to the bend in the metal, but not at the rim end.

    V-brakes. PITA to adjust :(

Slightly off track but keeping on the wheel theme. I occasionally break the odd spoke at the threaded nipple end. It snaps right at the bit where it enters the nipple. Over tight spokes or something more mysterious?

    V-brakes. PITA to adjust :(

When I read your reply, I realised the probable cause of the problem, the brake levers of course. I changed both over from the Specialized originals to e-brake levers. Mmmmm, might just have a bash at trying to dial out that wobble with a spoke key ;)

    V-brakes. PITA to adjust :(

Tried to adjust my rear V-brakes today, I just couldn't seem to get it right. The trouble is the wheel is slightly out of true, moving approximately 1-2mm side to side. I can adjust the pads so that they clear the rim and don't rub as the wheel rotates, but then I can't get enough braking...

    Tapatalk App worth it?

When I visit some forums, my Nexus 7 keeps asking to download the Tapatalk app. I just click not to download, and carry on viewing the website as a normal webpage. Now I don't mind paying the £1.99 for the app, but is it worth it and will it make my forum experience any better?

Sticky sprag clutches, can they be saved?

Thanks d8veh, a couple of ES members did mention that they stuck, then became unstuck again after a few more miles. I'll have to take a look at the anatomy of a roller clutch, to see what might have failed. Was mistakenly looking at sprags. You're right in saying just replace it. Shame it's a...

Sticky sprag clutches, can they be saved?

The sprag clutch on my MAC motor has started to stick. I believe it is a sprag type, do please correct me if I am wrong :o Bike still works fine, but have lost some of that wonderful free-wheeling action. I have a spare to replace this one, but was wondering if you can service these units...

Connecting a solar panel and battery together?

Thanks d8veh, £5.79 seems a small price to pay for charging safety. A total mind melch, wibble wibble idea, would a large capacitor work? The pump only needs to run on for about an hour after sunset, so could a capacitor be used instead? Do they need a charging regulator? Don't think they...

Connecting a solar panel and battery together?

The solar panel I'm buying provides 0.29A @12v. It has a blocking diode built in. Can anyone advise me if connecting this directly to the battery, shown in above post link, will cause an overcharge? I obviously don't want to create a battery overheat situation and a potential fire risk...

Connecting a solar panel and battery together?

Thanks Scimitar. The battery will be used just to run the pump during the odd evening when the missus is entertaining friends. I've spotted one on eBay that says that it'll recover from deep discharge with no problem. I'll incorporate a switch to turn it off after she's done with it. It's gonna...

Connecting a solar panel and battery together?

I'm in a bit of a tinkering mood and fancy doing the following: I've got one of those garden features, which cascades water over a globe using a very low wattage pump. The pump is tiny and can't see it being more than 5w, but does a nice job of pumping enough water at 12v. The mission is...

Anyone tried the new Kudos range? (Cobra/Tornado/Arriba)

Whoops, sticky keyboard... Meant to write, who hasn't swopped a couple of jelly beans for a sherbet lemon from the pick 'n' mix without saying "I had better go and pay for these now"............. Ahem

Carbon Fibre Road Bicycle /w Oxydrive

I agree with d8veh. It's not really worth the risk of face planting the tarmac, and possibly ending up underneath a car. It's always best to over engineer when it comes to diy e-bikes ;)

    8fun crank drive kit

I did clock that one when they first came out. Nice pack, but would be very expensive at around £700 shipped. I'm hoping that a manufacturer will start making the hardcase packs that attach to the water bottle holder. Similar to the Bosch ones, rectangular or triangular but not cylindrical.
