    Dogs again

d8ve, there is something unpleasantly conceited about your tone and you seem to be very narrow minded. The aviation industry invests heavily in addressing the human factors which can lead to an accident and in particular training people to recognise that they are not infallible. Identifying the...

    Dogs again

Well I'm pleased to hear that you haven't sustained any serious injuries and I hope that you feel more comfortable soon. I'm not going to rise to the, "helmet bait" that subject has been discussed at length already and the debate has revealed wide ranging opinions. More importantly /...

Brighten up the forum a little :)

Mine was taken when I was in the Navy.

    Pro Connect (2008)

I will go along with that. As you know, the motor failed on my 2008 Pro Connect and I replaced it with a 2011 motor, courtesy of Martin. Whilst the 2011 motor is much more powerful and pulls very well, I don't like the power delivery characteristics as much as I did on the older motor. The 2011...

many thanks to everyone for their contributions

I've had a Pro Connect for just over six years, but mine has the Panasonic motor, so I can't comment on the impulse system or the battery which accompanies it. My bike had done over 17000 miles and has had very few problems. I believe that this is due to the exceptional build quality of...

    30mph Legal Electric Bike

That's an awful looking bike. It's so ugly that other bikes repel it and that is why it can reach 30 MPH. Full marks for registering it though.

My next project. Wood fired bread/pizza oven

That's very attractive timber work. You appear to be making an excellent job of the build. I'd love something like that in my garden, but I lack both the time and skills to do it to the standard of yours. Very envious, well done.

    KALKHOFF IMPULSE 2 NO GO

If this battery is anything like the Panasonic battery supplied on earlier Kalkhoffs, it goes into a sleep mode after a period of inactivity in order to protect it. To reactivate / wake up the Panasonic batteries, you simply put them on the charger for a few minutes. The Impulse may use similar...

    Cycling

...my guess, and it is a guess, would be within 24 months. Sooner if the inevitable serious accident occurs.

as the cell door slams shut.......

Rolf places his head into his cupped hands and gently begins to weep. Soon the weeping turns into crying as Rolf sinks further into desperation. Then, out of the darkness, barely audible at first, he thinks that he hears a familiar melody. Can it be? Then slowly, as the tender words begin to...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

shambolic was asking a valid question and it's only polite to answer that question.

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

If the electric bike is a non-compliant electric bike, then as far as the insurance companies are concerned it isn't a, "bicycle" and they will say that motor insurance should have been obtained. If no motor insurance is held, then the rider will become personally responsible for funding any...

    It must be magic

You must have a stealthy set-up. Is it a kit, or an off the shelf job? Well done maintaining 6 years of cycling to work. I still get ribbed about using an electric bike by the (car drivers >16 stone). They are no advert for car usage, I'll continue with the bike!

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

On the 26 Volt early Panasonic motors, the speed is detected via the sprocket which drives the chain. This sprocket is on the end of the motor output shaft. This means that when in a low gear, the motor cut off occurs before 15 mph is reached. This is because the motor output shaft is rotating...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Yes, the Panasonic system does mirror the rider input and when climbing a steep hill in a low gear, so pulsing is noticeably. Turning the pedals by hand with the back wheel off the ground doesn't generate sufficient torque to activate the motor.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I don't know how the Bosch or Impulse system works and I only have a limited idea about the Panasonic since it isn't easy to take it apart. The Panasonic system measures torque about the the shaft which joins the pedal cranks on either side of the bike. I suppose this would be the bottom...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

As you know, I'm a fan of torque sensors, as can be found on my Panasonic crank drive bike. That said, I can see a real need for bikes with throttles and to exclude them would exclude a lot of people from enjoying the benefits of ebikes, so we need both types. To suggest that it is ridiculous...

    E-Bike Vision batteries

That's interesting, in what way is the bike transformed? Are you noticing an increase in the level of assistance? As another point of interest, how old is your bike and how many miles has it done? I'm curious about how well the early 26 Volt Panasonic Kalkhoffs are lasting now that they are...

    Kalkhoff Agattu 3E

I've tried a quick search on the internet, but can't find much relating to an Agattu 3E. Is this a 3 speed Agattu? I can tell you a bit about the 7 speed Agattu, but I'm not sure what the 3E is.

    Help - unwell ebike

Hi Penny, I can't really help because I know very little about the Yamaha motor, and I don't want to mislead you with incorrect advice. flecc and d8veh are probably not too wide of the mark with their suggestions. I'd probably lean toward something working loose given the way you describe the...
