    Cheap for a reason

A few of you have accused me of gloating. Utter tosh. How can you gloat on a ruddy ebike? It's only a heap of metal, whatever it costs. There are people on here who have paid more for bikes than me, people who have paid less, people with more money than me and people with less, and so on and...

    That's more like it

Good thought, might suit Corpusluteum as well. At least we can be fairly certain the battery mount won't break.

    Cheap for a reason

When I volunteered on London Edinburgh London there was a bike with an expensive, handmade frame which came apart at the head tube. Someone didn't weld it properly.

We had a thread about Eddie's AVE MH7 which he is selling. I see it's still available and he has reduced the price to £1,150. Decent bike for somebody, particularly if you could get it for a bag of sand...

    Cheap for a reason

Of course expensive bikes can break - we've had a couple of horror stories. But they break less often and I reckon they last longer. A lot of the niggles are caused by cheap OEM equipment - Kenda tyres being a good example. This thread is about the customer, not the retailer. Retailers - of...

    Cheap for a reason

Or you could convert your Brompton for about £1,000: http://www.nanoelectricbikes.co.uk/ The conversion is neat, but you would will still have the Brommie's harsh ride and twitchy steering. I like my Brompton Nano, but am glad I don't have to rely on it as my only ebike. On t'other hand...

    Cheap for a reason

That comment is bordering on the vindictive and unpleasant. I wish no one - or their bikes - any ill on here. You might wish my Rose breaks down because I disagree with your blind faith in Chinese garbage, but experience - nothing else - suggests you may have a long wait. Something will...

    Cheap for a reason

Cheap ebikes - much like cheap anything - are cheap for a reason. In only the last few hours on the boards we've had the folder with the battery connector which looks like it fell out of a cereal packet, but is less durable. A Chinese ebike that might catch fire, but no one can be really sure...

    E-motion Neo Xtrem

You've done more remodelling than most owners, but it's not as if you are butchering it. Finished bike should still look well - insofar as that's important. I was going to comment the labour at £30 is too cheap, but I take it the shop is also supplying the components.

    E-motion Neo Xtrem

Looks good. The Hollowtech bottom bracket is the cat's potatoes. Care needed with frame facing when fitting. Even a bit of paint on the face can cause the bearings to run out of true and wear very quickly. Some bike shops have frame facing machines. I would suggest it may be worth paying a...

I don't normally like flat pack, but....

The word 'exciting' and 'Bosch' don't go together. Dependable, easy to live with, capable are better descriptions. I went out on the Brommie this morning and there's no doubt its hub drive and throttle is more fun than my Rose. Not so handy on longer rides and not a natural cycling...

    A new type of tube

As my old Commando comics would have said: "Because this is how we fit ze tube in ze Fatherland - now you die, English pig dog."

    Bosch Spider Tool alternative

Wissy, To be serious, your bike has a bottom bracket/crank fitting called ISIS. They are known to come a little loose - you can tell by a very slight wobble in the pedal arm/chain ring. Most bike shops will have an ISIS tool and should be prepared to tighten yours while you wait. I know a...

    Derestricted Haibike Review For Cyclists

I have visions of a large bang and lots of very expensive and very intricate Japanese components mashed and scattered on the road.

    A new type of tube

Yes Phill, it's for my Rose in the avatar which has Mavic 29" wheels, so they obviously take a 28" tube, as we all know. The Marathon Supreme tyres are also marked 28 X 2.00. As regards how I get on, you will only hear that in the event of me getting a puncture. My new tube is strictly for...

    A new type of tube

It looks like the one end is domed and the other is dished so they should butt together well enough. The tube is quite heavy, which reassures me, and looks decent quality - in so far as it is possible to tell. The dust cap has a built in Schrader valve key which is a nice touch.

    A strange thing...

Is it a Schrader valve? Tiny bits of grit in the top of the valve can cause odd deflation behaviour. If you have a Schrader valve key, unscrew the core, refit and inflate again.

    A new type of tube

Inner tubes with ends are now available in ebike sizes. I've seen 'snake' style tubes for BMX bikes, but German company GAADI now has a range for 20" up to 28" wheels. Mine has just arrived and it is, well, what it is, a tube with two ends. Main advantage being, of course, you can fit it...
