    Derestricted Haibike Review For Cyclists

The Badass dongle 'assists' up to 45mph because it divides the speed the software thinks the bike is doing into three. http://www.badassebikes.com/en/ I have one and I doubt there would be much assistance at 30mph let alone 45mph. But I'm no test pilot, so someone else will have to try it.

Is a 28 mile round commute too far?

It's always nice to make encouraging noises, but the short answer is a 28 mile commute is too far, especially for a new rider. I've been ebiking a while and I still feel a 30 mile leisure ride. Combining that with a day's work and all weathers would not work for me. Leaving aside speed, most...

    Best tyres for commuting

Useful info, amigafan. The Big Apples don't have Schwalbe's ultra puncture protection, but the wider the tyre, the less likely it is to puncture so they probably don't need it. Also, I imagine a rigid protection belt more than two inches wide wouldn't let the tread flex enough in corners.

    Bosch Spider Tool alternative

I didn't use the tool. I tapped the ring around with a blunt screwdriver and a hammer. Came off no bother at all. It is plastic, by the way.

I can't see the point of trying to bodge the job for the sake of six quid: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/x-tools-crank-extractor/rp-prod10181

Ex Demo,HAIBIKE eQ Xduro, Bosch Motor, only 150 miles on the clock!! (on speedo) Mint Condition

Yes, although what I've read about Bosch batteries - I have two - is that it's the number of full cycles that kill them, rather than the passage of time. Whatever year this bike is, it has certainly not had much use, so the battery will not have been cycled many times. Going back to the year...

Ex Demo,HAIBIKE eQ Xduro, Bosch Motor, only 150 miles on the clock!! (on speedo) Mint Condition

It has the earlier 'one piece' handlebar controller rather than the current central display and thumb control. Nothing wrong with that, but I reckon it makes the bike a 2011 or even 2010 model.

My first commute - feeling hopeless :(

So long as you are content with the arrangements. You've posted in other threads about just getting out and about again after illness, so it would be a great shame if your progress was impeded in any way.. I know from bitter experience that having a bike nicked can be a nasty set-back.

My first commute - feeling hopeless :(

Is the bike parked in a secure area? I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but there's no doubt any bike regularly parked in the same place will attract attention from thieves. Your lock - or any other - will pose little deterrent in those circumstances.

Is a 28 mile round commute too far?

The Pedego has a steel frame, forks, and balloon tyres. It will probably ride better than most aluminum/cheapo suspension forks ebikes. It is likely to be heavy, even for an ebike, which is worth bearing in mind if you have to (wo)manhandle it through any restrictor gates found on some paths...

My first commute - feeling hopeless :(

Walk the route on a non-college day or when you have plenty of time. It will then be much more familiar and easier when you come to ride it.

    Pro Connect Problems (Dying?)

50 Cycles should put it in their window with a sign saying: "Half way around the world on one battery."

    London Electric Bike Company-cyber attack

Even an internet thicko like me can see the difference between 999 and one. I reckon KudosDave should sub-contract Wander to sort the job.

    London Electric Bike Company-cyber attack

Apart from anything else, I doubt the average thicko ebike dealer would have the wit, invention and ability to do it. I mean, some of 'em struggle to fix a broken spoke.

Is a 28 mile round commute too far?

I think zero to 14 miles each way could prove too much. Rather than part car/part bike, consider cycling in, public transport back and back in next morning and then cycle home. Or cycle both ways, but only aim for two or three days a week to start with. I can't see the point of messing around...

    CANNONDALE, CUBE or KTM ?

So are you telling me you could put a 2"+ mountain bike 29er tyre onto a wheel from a 7kg road bike? Or that one of those racing snake 50g rubber bands the roadies laughingly call a tyre would fit on my 29er Rose? By the way, I already knew the wheels are all same diameter, but thanks for...

    CANNONDALE, CUBE or KTM ?

As we all grasp, the wheels are all the same size. So what makes a 29er? It has to be the tyres, which tend to be 2" - or more - wide and higher profile, ie: taller sidewalls.

    What's your average speed ?

'Lower than yours' was the answer I had in mind before reading the post. And so it's proved to be. When I've bothered to check, my average is around 10 or 12mph.

    Best warranty

I agree the Smarta - and its battery - look well over-priced compared to the Woosh Sirocco2. Another point in the Woosh's favour is the 15ah battery, compared to 9ah on the Smarta. Whichever way you cut it, 9ah is tight for 20+ mile commute. The Scirocco2 was the one I tested and I reckon it...
