    Bike carrier purchase advice wanted

I'm sure a dummy crossbar is fine for a tow bar rack - the weight of the bike is supported by its wheels. Not sure about using a dummy crossbar on the cheaper arm racks which take all the weight of the bike on the crossbar. Particularly a heavy ebike.

    Check your nuts

Irrationally, I'm not keen on dome nuts. I prefer to see the thread emerge as you tighten the nut. On the Rose, they lock - or not - onto one of those lipped thick washers, green in my case. I wonder if those washers offer much grip to the nut.

    Shortlist

I've never dealt with Cyclezee, but there's enough stuff on here to make me fairly sure an eZee owner would be properly looked after.

    Shortlist

I liked the Emate CIty and all but bought one, except the dealer could never get any stock - he dropped them for that reason. Oxygen have recently been taken over, so that may have improved.

    Check your nuts

I had a couple of false changes on the Alfine 11 hub on the Rose during my ride today. No probs, just realign the little yellow dots on the hub changer as per Shimano's instructions. Except they didn't seem to be responding correctly to the barrel adjuster on the handlebar shifter. Odd, I...

    ebike recommendation

Trex is certainly not the Messiah and he's bordering on being a very naughty boy for suggesting a Bosch bike might not be adequate for you. Best bet is try one, they are all about the same so if you test a Bosch bike from another manufacturer you will have a good idea how that Moustache you...

    Cytronex Bike for sale

The bike is a CAAD10, you can see the welds on the tubes and the words Cannondale Advanced Aluminium Design on the seat stay. The 2014 model with part 105 groupset is about £1,300. http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Cannondale/CAAD10-105-Road-Bike-2014/2PIS?gclid=CMT4sd2l5r8CFWvlwgoddxEA_g The...

    work, leisure and fun!

I am pleased with the MH7. Quality bike which rides remarkably well for its small wheels. The secondhand one on ebay looks fine - most users replace the original saddle which is a narrow, hard roadie one. One thing worth checking is the size of the battery, Bosch made two, an 8ah and an 11ah...

    ebike recommendation

Seven miles is naff-all for an ebike and 17 stone is not so humungously overweight. A Bosch bike will do the job fine and I doubt you will want/need a throttle. What you will need for year-round commuting is mudguards, a rack to carry stuff and some lights for seeing and to be seen. Factory...

    Cytronex Bike for sale

Up to you, but that main pic is doing the bike no favours. It's facing the wrong way. The saddle cover is dreadful - get rid of it and raise the saddle a few inches. The farmyard background suggests dirt, muck, smells etc. Take the pic on the lawn/driveway with a neutral but picturesque...

Kalkhoff Agattu i8 HS for sale.

Given a post by JohnCade elsewhere I'm guessing he bought it. Nice looking bike with a genuine history so it should serve him well.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Are you tempted to chuck a Stromer into the back of the van?

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Riding a lightweight bike is a pleasure denied to all ebikers, so I can see where Alex is coming from - particularly because he's a light guy himself. I also agree about battery power, I now take two batteries with me on almost every ride. Sometimes I don't dip into the second one and I rarely...

    Chain & sprocket lubrication

Some large linked chains on agricultural machinery are designed to run dry to prevent the grinding paste effect. The links are about an inch long and the chain runs very slowly. Running without lube is not something I would try on a bike, but it is very easy to put too much on, too often.

    Bosch chain came off.....

The chain unshipped on the MH7 while going over a very modest bump. Fortunately, no harm done, it didn't jam and I was able to put it back on at the roadside. I suppose that is one advantage of the new Bosch motor, the small chainring makes it very unlikely the chain will come off. Although I...

Suntour Forks Recall now affects some e-bikes

Someone, somewhere, will have bolted a BPM motor into one of these. Hope his affairs are in order.

Do 20" bikes pull better than bigger bikes?

My 20" AVE MH7 climbs quite a bit better than the Rose on 29" wheels. Both have the Bosch motor. Peak assistance on the AVE is higher because it's derailleur geared, but acceleration and climbing is better at all assistance levels. The Rose freewheels faster, once those cartwheels are wound...

Range on 10,4 Ah water bottle style battery

Dave, There's no contrast with the Stromer thread - both quoted ranges are rose-tinted claims from people trying to flog their product. I don't doubt you could get 50 miles out of a carefully ridden 10ah Kudos (or any other) ebike. Equally, I don't doubt you could get 90+ miles (150km) out...

Range on 10,4 Ah water bottle style battery

I usually tell people who ask about the Bosch battery life that it's up to 40 miles. But I'm not trying to flog them one. The clue in the OP is in the cyclist, not the bike. A 'good cyclist' could do 50 miles on any bike unassisted, so getting that mileage from an ebike - any ebike - doesn't...

    Blog Section

Mmm, lots of dross in the blog section - apart from John's of course. Trouble is anyone with a computer can now be a published author. You could give me a paint brush, but it wouldn't make me Picasso.
