    Whoosh Karoo quick Review

the roads in London are terrible. I would strongly recommend that you replace the punctured tyre with this one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-marathon-plus-road-tyre-smart-guard/rp-prod24544 Choose 28C width for same. It will pay for itself. Replace also the innertubes with...

    New Gtech ebike

most specialist e-bike retailers need to make £400+ on a bike to keep their head above water. To run a shop with typically 4 staff members, you need to clear £150k net a year. From £1,000, you take out the VAT, (£166.33), at 25% margin, you would have to sell 720 Gtechs a year to stay in...

    New Gtech ebike

of course, that's true. The brain, or controller, can conserve battery capacity by being parsimonious with assistance. Bosch and other manufacturers publish their figures for different assist modes. In eco mode, you supply half of the power requirement and the Bosch battery the other half, by...

    Home made pedelec/pedal torque sensor

the resonance changes from frame to frame and because of stationary waves, the peak and its harmonics will vary with the location of the pickup. I thought your original scheme with the chain roller may be worth exploring further because you can build the PAS into the roller, kill two birds with...

    Bike for smaller people.

Bob, Fiona needs a full twist and go throttle although I thought a folding bike may be just as good and with the convenience of being easy to take in a car. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?gale

    Bike for smaller people.

Fiona needs a throttle - that rules out the Sahel. The Petite has a very smooth, low speed reassuring start on throttle and rear hub motor 24" wheel, 17A controller, 5 assist levels and King Meter LCD, quite good for the hills.

I was thinking of printing it in flexible plastic filament but wonder how to attach it to the motor's roller. By the way, did anyone watch the Grand Designs episode where the house was designed and cut from plywood panels?

totally agreed. The 5AH battery is a bit on the low side but adequate for most Londoners except cwah.

I don't think they sell it at a loss. The Gtech is cheaper to produce than the woosh Karoo and the price is similar.

    New Gtech ebike

I like lightweight bikes myself. My current e-bike is a Giant D5, cost: £293, the kit's price is £500 but I did not have to pay for it. The donor bike weighs 10.2kg, with the electrics, 16kgs all in. My motor has 1:16 primary reduction, controller is 18A and the battery is 15AH. It'll climb...

    New Gtech ebike

I fully agreed with what you just wrote. This is something you wrote earlier in this thread: That's something many members will find difficult to believe. Under £1,000 bikes are usually the domain of cheap Chinese bikes and thus not thought of as well designed because of the compromises to keep...

I would be interested in using Simon's design to develop an anti-slip roller to match the tyre tread.

    New Gtech ebike

how often do you replace or even grease your chain? chains use dry lube anyway and most bikes have chain guards, making the reason of selecting the Gtech on the basis that other bikes may not do as well on cleanliness a bit weak. If you ride your bike in mud, you will have to wash out the mud in...

    New Gtech ebike

I don't want to burst your bubble but there are plenty of good bikes out there. The carbon belt replaces a £10 chain. What's the big deal? If your chain slips on a single speed it's because of lack of maintenance. Buying a bike is an investment, many will want to take into account resale value...

    New Gtech ebike

the Gtech does not have suspension fork, therefore loses less to the roads. The battery says 200WH, that will yield about 200WH/8WH per mile = 25 miles range. About 20 miles before the motor starts cutting in and out. One good thing about e-bikes without suspension: it's less tiring to pedal...

    Home made pedelec/pedal torque sensor

I am a fan of torque sensor bike for a long time but unless there is a better solution than the Bosch bikes, I can't see the point of re-inventing the wheel. The Xofo TS motor comes close, but d8veh made the remark back in 2013 when he tried the woosh TS bike, the sensor hits the max too easily...
