ACF-50 or GT85, too good to be true?

I use GT 85 as a 'spray and wipe all over' after most rides. It leaves a bit of shine on the bike which looks nice and means the next dirt doesn't stick too badly. As well as a very light lube for anything around the house, GT 85 can also be used to clean plastics such as car dashboards.

Recommend a bike for a cycl to work scheme (max £1000)

I have this for the front: Wiggle | Lezyne Macro Drive Front LED Light | Front Lights Good as any, but as I said there is an enormous choice. A similar light for the rear is a bit cheaper. A lot of commuters use more than one light at each end, but it is possible to over do it. You could...

Recommend a bike for a cycl to work scheme (max £1000)

Pleased to see you are now looking at something with a rack and mudguards - essential for a commuter. Dynamo lights as an aftermarket fit are now old hat because the stand alone LED lights are so good and reasonably priced. A lot can be charged from USB, meaning you can ride in, charge it at...

    Thinking of a Giant

I think those pannier batteries are about 8ah. An Esprit I tried a year or so ago was fine, although some people think they lack grunt. Nearly £1,000 for a 2011 seems a bit steep to me when Giant offer a new ebike for £999, although I'm not sure how the specs compare. The new Giant for £999...

Best option to electrify a Brompton

I have a Brompton Nano which has served me well. Reasonably powerful and a neat fit - battery in a Brommie bag with the connection via the luggage block. There are other kits, and 'doing a nano' by buying the components individually and fitting yourself would be cheaper. But if you want an...

    Side swipped by a van.

Most shared paths, quite sensibly, have a bye law speed limit of about 10 or 12mph. It is perfectly reasonable for any cyclist to want to cycle faster than that, meaning it would be illegal for them to use the path.

    General Lee 29-42t cassette adapter

I don't fully grasp what this 'cassette adaptor' is. Looks like three extra big cogs which you presumably swap with the three biggest cogs on the existing cassette. Would do the job, assuming the derailleur could manage the extra chain run, you might need to extend the chain. It's lots of...

    Side swipped by a van.

My guess is the van driver failed to see the pinch point and automatically pulled to the left without regard to what was happening on his nearside. That doesn't make the driving any less poor. If you can be bothered, offer the video to the police but don't expect them to take much interest...

    300 or 400w Bosch battery??

I can get 40+ miles from my 400wh battery in favourable-ish conditions. The OP wants 35, but whichever way you look at it, there will be battery anxiety with the smaller battery.

Talk to me about running costs

Battery life is a piece of string question, but even a cheap battery on a bike like your Hopper should last longer than 1,250 miles. A decent battery will take hundreds of charges before showing any significant decline. Overall running costs for commuting is an interesting one. A moped will...

    Spokes on Freego Eagle

Spokes can break on any bike, but the cheaper Chinese hub drive ebikes seem more prone to it.

    Hi need your help please

Mark, You mention health problems and 'the option of pedalling'. As a first step, I think you need to establish if an ebike has enough power for your use. Most in your budget will be 250 watts, they are not mopeds and won't climb a steep hill without a fair amount of pedalling from the...

    Brompton Nano or Kudos Secret?

Hub gears are particularly suited to a folder for a few reasons: Derailleurs on small wheeled bikes hang very low making them more susceptible to damage and picking up road dirt. The chain on a hub gear bike has a higher line which means it stays cleaner. Hub gears are cleaner for handling...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

On the general topic of panniers, a friend of mine is a traditional touring cyclist. He tells me he 'doesn't like to see' a bike with a single pannier because it doesn't look right. Seems I will never be welcomed as a member of the Cyclists' Touring Club.
