Rear carrier rear light advice wanted

It's worth paying attention to rear lighting - I reckon a rear ender is at least as likely as an other type of collision. Some rear lights are surprisingly feeble and difficult to see from any distance. There's a B&M carrier light on the Rose - probably similar to the one on Alex's Kalkhoff -...

Moustache eBikes - What do you think?

One wheel an inch and a half bigger than the other is about as big a gimmick as you can get. Yes, there's lots of difference between 26" and 29er, but 27.5 one end and 29 the other is a joke.

A faultless bike and a little fettling

This forum has been looking more like a trade paper of late, so time for a thread about a user's ebike. The user is me and the bike is my Rose/Bosch Xtrawatt trekking bike. I've covered more than 600miles now and have been planning to post an update for some time. Happily, there's not...

    Hi From the channel islands.

Inevitably, ebikes are going to be seen as the thin end of the personal motorised transport wedge, so I can see why parliament imposes strict legislation.

What Is The Best Value German Bike Electric Bike?

For £1,200 you get an uninspiring design made up of a mixture of cheap branded and non-branded parts. No wonder John emphasises the warranty, on paper it's the best thing about the bike. But we all know the real worth of bike warranties, don't we? So it's 'nul points' from me.

Is It Safer Riding an Electric Bike?

Stu is spot on. It's tempting to think the 100 mile a day roadies must have a death wish, but they are able to keep pace with the traffic much of the time which is much safer. The 15mph cut off on ebikes can be a safety hazard. A modest increase to 20mph would make ebiking in town and...

Moustache eBikes - What do you think?

I'm surprised you ask. There won't be much of a discernible difference between riding a 27.5 (another gimmick) and a 29er - even less when you've got one of each. Particularly true with an ebike which tends to iron out what differences there are in terms of acceleration, weight, and to a...

Moustache eBikes - What do you think?

There's now a £5K Moustache with a bigger wheel on the front than the back. It can only be a gimmick, and an expensive one at that. Speaking of money, perhaps we could call it the Franc-centime. Electric Mountain Bike | Electric MTB | Moustache Samedi 279 | Electric mountain bike UK

    kudos versatile

You will do well to find anything worth having for less than woosh prices. As you are on Tyneside, have a word with Sports Recycler in South Shields. They have an ebike sales operation and keep about half-a-dozen in stock. Sports Recycler - Home Page

Something like this, presumably: Delite hybrid rohloff/HS | riese und müller Spec looks good. I notice they fit the chain tensioner with the hub, some don't, so that's a good indication corners haven't been cut. Hopefully the only finger crossing you will need to do is for the order to be...

Which bike are you having? I hope it arrives on time. Until the supply situation settles, I would be very wary of ordering anything with the Bosch motor.

Buy a Rose. Mine has been faultless, and from what I can gather they look after you if it does go wrong. One problem, there are no Rose ebikes at the moment because they can't get the drives from Bosch. You couldn't make it up, but sadly you don't have to.

    1st E-Bike advice

Fair play to Nick for considering a couple of unusual bikes. I wonder how stiff the single girder design of the Joule is, avoiding flex around the bottom bracket must be difficult. A chain run of that length to a hub gear would worry me, it might need lots of adjustment. Prism - ...

ACF-50 or GT85, too good to be true?

At least it was branded. Five hundred miles even for a cheapie sounds poor to me - especially for a hub drive bike.

ACF-50 or GT85, too good to be true?

My Rose/Bosch bike has done 600+ miles and the chain is barely showing any wear. I expect your problem is garbage original equipment. The chain supplied with the Rose is a Shimano Dura-Ace which retails at £30 or so. Your BH probably had a £5 Halford's special.

    Hello from Liverpool

Phil, The Scirocco will easily handle your journey to work and, for the money, they are hard to beat. A £2K ebike - Kalkhoff or something else - is likely to be more reliable. It will have much better components and be nicer to ride. However, some riders just don't 'get' a quality bike...

I agree that is what should happen. But bike dealers are prone to say: "Not our problem, mate, down to the manufacturer." Then, like they are doing you a favour, they will agree to send the bit away leaving the customer off the road for weeks. Realistically, there's nothing the customer can...

ACF-50 or GT85, too good to be true?

GT85 is not up to lubing a chain. I use it to spray and wipe the chain, which takes some of the dirt off, then lube with one of the 'dry' chain oils. I still have a large aerosol from when I had a motorbike, although the little drip bottles allow more accurate application.
