375 miles need new brake pads!

the blocks are dammaged because you let ridges form over the contact area, reducing braking power. Don't bother repairing them this time when new pads only cost £3-£4 a pair (wilkinsons have them for £1.99) but look after them better next time. It could be the result of dirty rim and not poor...

    Inverters

a charger is a step down AC DC converter. These devices are quite efficient in converting voltage and current, that means the energy loss is usually less than 10%, for example you put in 100W , you get out more than 90W. It's like other power transformers, you have V out * I out = efficiency...

    Inverters

these Lithium-ion chargers are switched mode power supply. The input current is smaller because the input voltage is higher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply

    Torque claims.

the Mini's figure is given at about 4,000 RPM - the Bosch figure is given at much lower RPM, about 35 RPM. The Mini outputs 70 times more power than the Bosch.

    Torque claims.

torque figures given by manufacturers are difficult to use, especially for crank motors because as you said, the resulting torque at the wheel is modified by the gear ratio. Torque x rotational speed = power output. Manufacturers don't always publish the maximum power output of their motors...

375 miles need new brake pads!

you pay extra money on the first pair of pads. then later pull off the worn shoes and push on new shoes. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clarks-CPS513-Brake-Cycle-Component/dp/B005PVLSP0/ref=pd_bxgy_sg_text_y they save time. The best brakes for e-bikes are hydraulic brakes..

375 miles need new brake pads!

these pads are soft rubber to protect the rims - braking erodes the contact area, it's cheaper to replace the shoes than the rim. (the central groove acts as rim wear indicator, when the groove goes, the rim needs replacing). what seems to have happened here is that you kept the pads at the...

    Inverters

that's what I saw on a watt meter that the woosh charger (mains plug) was plugged into. when the battery was very flat, the reading was about 90-93W, dropping down to about 80W in the main, then down to about 7W near finishing. 2-3W when the LED went green.

hi am loving my electric bicycle experience

your 20 miles a day (5,000 miles a year) may be a bit too much for 20 inch folders. Everything wears out more quickly on smaller wheels. If you absolutely need a folder, the woosh zephyr-B is the one with sturdy motor, hydraulic brakes and a bigger 52T chainring. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?zephyr-b

the Bosch charger can do fast charging. Mike has a 42V 1.8A charger, it can't use more than 95W.

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

the Sahel is a lot more stable and comfortable to ride at high speed than the Brompton, The only thing find for the Brompton is that it folds small enough to take it with you going on airplanes.

    recommendations for 36V rear hub

These small bikes don't handle well in corners, there is no point going for speed. 15 mph is about the safe limit. The small wheels give them plenty of torque anyway. I'd go for lightweight, heavy motors makes folding/unfolding unpleasant.

    Inverters

your charger outputs at 42V, 1.8A * 42V = 75.6W Assuming that up to 20% of the input energy is wasted in heat, the inverter needs to supply at most 95W. A 250W inverter costs £10 on ebay that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket would do.

    E-Bike Upgrade

you can only have regen with direct drive (gearless) motors - these motors weigh a ton and not efficient at climbing hills. The BPM motor is a good idea but not sure about putting 500W on the front wheel though. There's probably not enough friction to keep the wheel on the ground.Plus you only...

Maximum distance with kid on board?!

your requirements are a bit more than most bikes can do. Most rear racks are not strong enough to carry a 9 year old and fast growing boy. You'll also need a strong motor and a 15AH battery or better for the distance. Best bet is to convert a bike that you know your child and you are going to be...

    Help

the Sundowner is nicer riding unassisted. It's got fast rolling 700C x 32mm tyres, Nexus 7 gears - so pretty wide gear ratios, it's also lighter and being Dutch style, has more relax riding position.
