    Help from the East.....

As someone didn't say, include me 'in' the County Durham ride. We also have a couple of newer members from the patch who may like to stick their hands up. One might have a shiny new Storck Raddar to show off.

20mph speed limit -applies to bikes ?

'Wanton and furious riding' is an old offence - the riding originally referred to a horse. However, it is still used occasionally because most of the motoring offences contain the phrase 'you drove a mechanically propelled vehicle....' and not all vehicles fit the definition 'mechanically...

    Confused bike buyer !

A crank drive Klakhoff ought to suit. Quality bike, hub gears for low maintenance, and at 10 miles a day you might only need to charge the battery two or three times a week. On budget, too, particularly if you negotiate a bit off the web price: 2012 Kalkhoff Agattu C8 Impulse HS 50cm Electric...

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

I called in to Recycler last weekend. The new European assembled Oxygens are due in the next few weeks. I'm not sure the Oxygens will suit the OP because it looks they are sticking with 26" wheels and mountain bike-type tyres. For general information, Vince is part-time but is usually there...

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

Very fair, David. After calling into Storck at Gateshead a few weeks ago for a look-see, I think the OP will enjoy the buying process. Very agreeable experience, bikes nicely laid out and the young man who served me couldn't have been more obliging. He offered a decent-length test ride, and...

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

Ah, fair enough. And Storck seem to offer a customisation service, so I'm sure they'd fit more traditional bicycle tyres if that's what the OP wants.

    Helmets again

And the Lidl/Aldi ones have switchable vents - not that I've tried them in this weather. The Bell one linked earlier looks good, too, for £20. Bell is a good make, so it should be up to snuff protection-wise.

    Helmets again

The link in post one will give you a good idea. I have a Lidl one - very similar - and I'm pleased with it, not least because it is comfortable and a good fit. No point in 'shelling' out £90 or £100, in my view. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/13407-helmets-aldi.html

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

Agreed. More or less everything is right about the Storck for the OP. He knows a decent bike when he sees one, the Storck is certainly that, it is beautifully made and finished. I reckon it's about a £750 hybrid with a motor, as opposed to many ebikes which are £250 bikes with a motor. The...

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

Linear tubes, sometimes known as cobras, are still around. The majority of bikes have quick release wheels, so there's no real advantage, quite the reverse, pratting around with a cobra takes longer. If electric bikes become more mainstream, then so might cobras to fit. But I think the days...

    Agattu HSs on Ebay

Same bike - and pic - is on their website at £1,795. 50 Cycles can market their product however they wish, but I think a near £300 premium for using the 'wrong' website is taking the Michael. 2012 Kalkhoff Agattu C8 Impulse HS 50cm Electric Bike

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

Is it too late to urge you to reconsider? Those solid tyres are truly dreadful, and will be genuinely difficult to fit to a 20" wheel. You mention tacks. The Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres to which you've been referred are tack-proof, or at least the tread is. I'm not a big fan of YouTube...

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

Thanks David. I think it was an Albino I tried - it was white (another joke, this time non-pc). As you say, a big bike. I stand about 5' 11', but my 29" inside leg made the Alpino a non-starter. The new model - even from the single pic - looks to be a quality product. Which it needs to be...

£2,000 toy fund - but what to spend it on ?

That Classic looks a lot like a Woosh Scirocco to me. (Joke, David - don't want to start that again.) Serious question, does it have 26" wheels? I tried the previous one with 28" wheels and it was too tall for my little legs - both the saddle and in particular, the crossbar were too high.

    Trouble shooting a broken bike

The title of this thread is beginning to annoy me. If the OP has trouble shooting his broken bike, he should take better aim.

    E-Bike Fuel Gauge

So can I now say without fear of contradiction: "Ebikes with 250W motors limited to 15.5mph are for all practical purposes legal." ...waits in anticipation...

Short report from the CORE bike show.

The £1,000 limit on the cycle to work scheme has an impact on the price of e or ordinary bikes customers buy. Topping up appears to be at the discretion of the retailer, some do not allow it even if the customer wants to.

    Electric Folding Bike

I had my Brompton Nano-ised last year and can confirm it's an excellent package. Plenty of room in the front bag on top of the battery. My conversion is a simple throttle-only one, although Nano will fit a pedelec control as well. The throttle is just the job for stop/start riding in traffic...

Woosh Scirocco 2 - independent review

My review of the Woosh Scirooco 2, no input from Woosh other than supplying the bike. MANY buyers will be drawn to the Scirocco due to its long list of equipment and relatively cheap price. But is this a bike which looks good on screen, but performs poorly on the road, or a happy mix of both...

    Spencer Ivy

The short answer is buy one if that's what you want. But for an extra £150 or so you get 15ah instead of 10ah battery, hydraulic rim brakes and a parking lock. No contest to me, although the Spencer Ivy looks a decent quality bike and should serve you well enough.
