    throttle is also useful for hill climbing when you are in lowest gears. Instead of pedalling like mad, sit back and let the motor do its job.

    I think the claim is a little bit OTT. Although the controller will go up to 25A, the limiting factor is the battery, 48V 11A, maximum draw is 22A. 30-33mph is more likely.

    where would you put the battery on the Brompton, where are you going to run the wires through and how would you keep the weight down? The only practical solution for an e-Brompton is a front Copenhagen type of wheel.

    A 15AH (or 17AH) battery is only about 1kg heavier than the 11.5AH (400WH) and has enough power to do the whole commute whatever the weather. I am not suggesting lugging a second battery.

    Michael, the weight of the battery and motor (7-8 kgs) is not much compared to the total weight (bike + rider, about 100kgs). If you are the sort of blokes who ride 4,000 miles a year, a big motor is a must, it's not only flexible with the power demand, it's also longer lasting. Small SWX...

    I take it that by continuing with this thread, you are not totally averse to derestricting your bike. Then any bike with a big motor, 15AH battery or better will do the job provided that you can derestrict it.

    it will be obvious when you start using the bike. Set the cut off speed to 20mph, that still gives you some protection.
