    Shortlist down to 2 (Orbea/Wisper) - Thoughts/Comments

Off topic for a moment.... Absolutely right Eddie, ten years ago when I started Wisper, the choice of motors and more importantly controllers was nothing compared to today. Most importantly though, I would not have had a clue what the difference was between the systems anyway! The motor we use...

Hi Eddie, Great to see you are so passionate about electric bikes! I have absolutely no gripe with Bosch mid drive systems, we sell hundreds of Bosch bikes. I love them! Just trying to give an unbiased view on the real differences between mid drive and hub drive. There is absolutely no...

Difficulties? We supply Wisper and Bosch powered Riese and Muller bikes to the trade in the uk, so have no particular axe to grind. The problem with centre drive motors apart from the noise when riding is the damage caused to the drive train. All that extra power gives premature chain...

I wondered as well. More than likely the local availability of the products and the availability of first class local support would have had a lot to do with it. If you then narrow the price band to £1,500 to £2,000 and demand torque control, the choice of bikes decreases quite dramatically...

    Let's keep the throttle!

Thanks Flecc, so they are saying it is legal to have the "walk along' button/throttle on a bike, but use by the rider if they are actually riding the bike is illegal? Thanks again for clearing that point up. Mobility scooters fall into a different set of rules again. All the best David

    Let's keep the throttle!

Copied from a letter I received on the subject from the DfT on the 17th November... "EAPCs that have a throttle that can be used up to a maximum of 15.5 mph will not be considered to be motor vehicles providing that the cycle has pedals that are capable of propelling it. The only change to this...

    wisper 905 ignition socket problem

Thanks Nealh, I have always strongly believed the selling an EBike is only 50% of the job. We take a pride in either keeping in stock or being able to obtain parts for even our older bikes. It's also very gratifying when someone who uses one of our older models asked for parts. Our batteries...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Does anyone know the position of kits fitted to a bike? Does the bike still need to be certified to EN15194 to be road legal in the UK?

No doubt you could win Col if the bike was reduced to a non e-bike, but I thought this was about the control of electrical assistance? Have I misunderstood?

My money's on you Ken, unless of course the power is turned off on the KTM.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Hi Shemozzle, we have upgraded the power on our 4mph walk assist mode to make hill starts easier on our Wisper SE simple cadence sensor models. I don't think we will have any problems and haven't in tests. I will report back if we do. All the best David

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

Interestingly in Holland where the 45k/h speed pedelec law is very relaxed, Riese and Muller sell 4 times as many speed pedelecs as the 25 kph versions of the same bikes. I agree there is no place for a 30mph bike on cycle paths, but they are amazing to ride! Edit... This should be balance by...

Am I missing something? EBike sales up 16.2%. City and Trekking bikes (not ebikes) down 22%. Makes sense to me. [emoji848]

The Woosh Gale folding cycle, will this be legal to EU law after January 2016?

Hi Tony, have you found a mechanism for Type Approval? All the best David

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I agree, on most bikes for most people there is no need for a throttle, especially if they have one up to 4mph to help get them moving. We at Wisper, preempted the situation and produced the 905Torque and 705Torque, these bikes have a torque sensor as well as speed and cadence. Our Torque...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Hi Ken, They have got it wrong, but what's new? They are completely and utterly useless. I don't think there is a single e-bike out there that has a power output of less then 250W! And there is no doubt at all that throttle will not be legal after the 1st January 2016 unless we manage to shift...
