    Waterproofing

drilling holes underneath the LCD is a bit counter-intuitive, I imagine most people would prefer a shower cap and keep their LCD completely sealed. Drilling holes may work but then I would simply undo the battery cover, put a small bag of anhydrous silicon gel inside and close the cover.

    Ebike - long range

Samsung SDI are going to supply 3.2AH cells very soon, even with those, a 36V 40AH battery will still weigh about 7-7.5kgs. I think 36V 30AH (6kgs) is going to be about as much as we see arriving this year.

    Ebike - long range

the best 18650 cells at present can only go up to 3AH. A 37V 40AH battery will need at least 130 of those cells. The silver fish casing as shown in the picture should have enough space for about 70-90 cells, not 130. Prismatic cells are just as voluminous.

    silly question?

does it matter if they don't limit the speed to 25kph? lots of bikes being sold today are easy to derestrict, even Bosch do not close down the 'tuning' dongles. BTW, I can't see how an SWX motor can do 21mph on 26" tyres unless going downhill.

    order advice

I would wait for their answer. If it's not very satisfactory, I would put the battery on ebay and ask them to make good my loss with some other items on the next order. Don't buy an item unless they have loads of it in stock.

    Dahon Jetstream conversion

cwah, you will have to replace the pads anyway, they are too worn to be safe. Before you install the new pads though, if you could post some pictures of your rotor and the mount of the caliper, we'll have a better idea why part of your pads is outside the rotor's surface.

    silly question?

I asked myself the same questions and never have the courage to try it out. KirstinS has tried something similar on an 8-Fun kit and got higher speed.

Cycle to Work scheme - the employers side of things

I am not sure how much salary sacrifice HMRC see as acceptable for bikes costing more than £1000. Too much and it will be treated as taxable benefit in kind.

Cycle to Work scheme - the employers side of things

you don't need a credit licence for £1000 bikes. Resource: http://www.oft.gov.uk/OFTwork/credit-licensing/cycle#.UwyZ3M7N7ms If you want to have the licence for your peace of mind, just download the document: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/credit_licences/c2w-licence.pdf...

Cycle to Work scheme - the employers side of things

the scheme is limited to £1000 bikes including any safety accessories. If you want to buy a more expensive bike, you will need a nod and a wink from your employer, you'll need two invoices, one for the bike £1,000 including VAT that will be used for the scheme and the balance is for...

Cycle to Work scheme - the employers side of things

As far as I am aware, any employer can offer their staff the benefits of C2W scheme, you don't have to do anything special and it does not have to cost your business anything. 1. ask employees to find the bike they want, ask for a written quote. 2. Buy the bikes, put the invoices through as...

    Dahon Jetstream conversion

Even cheap pads will last 1000 miles. your pads are nor worn evenly, the ridge near the clip hole stops the pads contacting the rotor. You need to adjust the mounting of your brake in such a way that the rotor makes contact with all of the pad's surface (move the brake body nearer to the centre...

    Very lightweight e-bikes

annad also cut a large hole in the head tube to install the battery. Is this sensible? their design forces the top tube and down tube to have a round section to accomodate the battery, not good.

    Very lightweight e-bikes

All I am saying is that these bikes are not good designs. good products lead to commercial success for the traders, I only try to put off KD - although I am sure he's got his own reasons to look into this category of e-bikes, like a shop in a very affluent part of London. I imagine that...

marcin, you could have also asked them for the cost and availablity of replacement battery and motor and if this model is being discontinued. Their list price is Eur 1,400, huge saving.

    Very lightweight e-bikes

demand for very light weight e-bikes is bound to be very limited. The problem is not just pricing, it's the compromises that have to be taken in order to reduce the weight. You are not cutting out the fat, but the muscle. The bike that d8veh tested at Shanghai last year may seem torquey in the...
