    Very lightweight e-bikes

I think the stated weight is a bit on the low side, especially when the bikes are fitted with suspension forks. The motors from keyde are not that good. Batteries are slotted inside the frames, recipe for condensation problems. Batteries are also known to swell over time. What happens if you...

Ezee Sprint compared to Tonaro Esprit 2

on paper, it should give crank drives a run for their money, 80NM maximum torque (it's 8 followed by a zero), easily overvolted, 25% lighter than Bafang BPM etc but I think it will not have the reliability of the Bosch crank or Bafang BPM because it has two clutches for two reduction ratios. I...

inexpensive e-bike for 6 miles commute

you can generally count on traders on this forum for good service, like Cyclotricity, Cyclezee, Kudos, Woosh etc - The Range handles 65000 lines in their mailorder catalog. The bike sold by Therange (CDS Superstores) is a one off, it's the best VFM bike out there at the moment but beware, the...

inexpensive e-bike for 6 miles commute

it depends on the distribution channels. Bikes sold through the shops are prepped by the shop to high standard, bikes sold through mail order are prepped by the customers, standard varies. A £700 bike sold by mail order (like the Woosh Sirocco 2 above), if sold in the shop, would be priced at...

inexpensive e-bike for 6 miles commute

(Post crossed with d8veh) I disagree. The running cost of is an important consideration when considering a bike for commuting. Simple truths: 1. the resale value of a commuting bike is very low. You have to be prepared to write off your investment if you sell. Therefore, have a realistic...

    Sinclair Zeta for this century?

it seems a bit light. They claim motor output of 700W. You have already the (steel?) casing, the controller, motor, pinch roller mechanism, that's probably 2.5kgs already, does not leave much for the battery. May be motor or battery is made with papier-mâché.

    Sinclair Zeta for this century?

it's a bike sharing scheme, the host bike still needs the mounting adapter for the motor box. Would you like to lug around your 6kgs motor box or a 150g hydrogen cartridge?

    Sinclair Zeta for this century?

good on paper but.. consider that the weight on the tyres usually exceeds 30kg and sometimes they lose friction - you can't expect much from about 5 kgs of pressure with a friction motor. Small battery, gutless motor, it's not good. Fuel cell powering conventional e-bikes is the way to go.

I may be cynical but I tend to believe more 'bad' stories by owners like denwyn, mjwobble, brianC, maloflora etc. Quite often, the brands come out on top but the stories reveal weaknesses of the products or support system.

if you get to a hill and push hard, I agree that the motor simply maxes out. You can still adjust the throttle voltage with the LCD +/- or change gears.
