Another battery question-please can you help?

it's still too expensive. Batteries are the most reliable component in an e-bike, requiring no support. Suppliers can factor in 2% per annum failure rate - that would put a 37V 17AH battery with 3 year warranty about 110% of CIF - easily marketable at around £400-£450.

    Woosh Sirocco CD

if you don't need the throttle, you can unplug it and replace the grips with a pair of Ergon GP1. I don't have throttle on my crank drive 8-Fun and I don't miss it.

Another battery question-please can you help?

I can confirm that rocky trails can damage your battery because it happened to me. The best casing I found is from Ping, the inner hard shell is suspended inside outer hard shell. May be that contributes to their reputation as a quality battery supplier.

Crank Motor Kit from 8Fun/Bafang BBS01

Yes, have it for a month now and I like it. Noise is about the same as my previous 8-Fun rear hub motor but much quieter than the hub motor at high speed. Friction in the motor freewheel is not more than at the rear freewheel, same little ratchet noise. Shemoz may want to confirm this, smooth...

Crank Motor Kit from 8Fun/Bafang BBS01

I agree with d8veh that rear hub drive is neat on the dahon but the BBS01 is simpler to fit because it does not really need brake switches.

Crank Motor Kit from 8Fun/Bafang BBS01

I have one of the BBS01 - run it on 26" wheels, don't know if it's good on smaller wheels. It's easy to fit and to derestrict. Good thread about it here: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/14590-8fun-crank-drive-kit.html

Reads 40v but just a flicker

It seems like you have a dead cell, it appears like taking charge but collapses as soon as the bike draws large current, it shuts the BMS down.

Kit to electrify a road bike - feasible?

get an 8-Fun crank drive, hub drive makes you put on fat, friction drive not good on hills, the only place where you really need assistance. The good thing about the 8-Fun kit: you have to keep pedalling - it cuts out nearly instantly when you stop pedalling, making it natural to ride with. The...

    Rubbee electric drive system

I remember riding the old Velosolex back in the late 60's. Similar principle, good pull. I had it for 3 good years until I saved enough for a Honda 50cc. It wasn't great on wet roads apart from that, what a great bike it was. Chain drive beats friction drive any day.

    Rubbee electric drive system

It's overpriced, overhyped, easily nickable and will lose grip going up hills.

KTM eRace P, first impression review

I became disappointed with hub motors after I damaged my controller and battery going over bumps at high speed. The sudden acceleration of the motor wheel going down the bumps turns the motor into an unwanted generator, damaging the electronics. Motors with regen may be the solution to this but...

My bike went dead half way thought to work

open the controller casing - if something smells burnt then you have a problem there. Sometimes the 2W resistor feeding the 14V regulator overheats and fails intermittently showing the symptom you described.

Best way to treat a new battery

If you do a lot of miles, your battery will be fine. If you pedal most of the time, your battery does not get used much, you'll have to be a bit more careful not to overcharge it. 5 miles on pedelecs would use up about 50Wh of the battery, so charge it after every 20-25 miles for a 10Ah battery...

    500 miles done!

A few times, I brake too hard on one side and found one of the two wheels on my bike locking up under braking, sending the bike into a side slide. It's quite frightening even at 20-25mph. It's definitely not sensible to keep assistance at over 25mph.

the prototype seems to use a 195cc petrol engine from parajet. The two designers only work on the folding bike.
