    Forthcoming EU Red Tape Bonfire

whatever else they come up with next? They did not forecast earthquakes in Yorkshire at the beginning and when minor earthquakes happened, that destroyed their credibility, it shows how little preparation work went into this project. Most of my stock is in bike parts. in the last 12 years, the...

    Forthcoming EU Red Tape Bonfire

The main thing is PV panel is much more efficient at converting solar energy into electricity than any other paths such as solar thermal panels, bio-fuel crops etc. Metals dissolve in rain water: modern solar panels contain zero cadmium and a tiny amount of lead in its associated electronics but...

the problem with nuclear power, whether from fission or fusion, is the high energy neutrons (>1MeV) that are produced by the nuclear reactions and need to be absorbed, slowed down to thermal neutrons (<1eV) and controlled. Unabsorbed high energy neutrons hit the moderation liquid and the walls...

    Forthcoming EU Red Tape Bonfire

I wouldn't go that far but I believe that the cost of decommissioning being passed onto future generations is a good enough reason to stay away as much as possible from more nuclear power until fusion becomes reality. At present, the cost per kW of solar panels is about £200. You get about 4kWH...

that's the problem with JRM's list. JRM is the minister for unleashing brexit benefits but most of the ideas he came up with smell of lobbyism. My suggestion for him would be to cut red tape on community solar farms (1MW or less) to deal with the high cost of energy.

    Forthcoming EU Red Tape Bonfire

I have been waiting for years to see the proof that GM is better than simple horticultural selection. As far as I am aware, GM gives manufacturers the ability to stop farmers propagate the seeds themselves and force them to continue buying the GM seeds from them.

    Cheap e-bike? £600?

Power = torque * rotational speed. Let's say your motor No1 is a direct drive and your motor No 2 is geared and has a ratio of 5 to 1 reduction for example. Both climb the same hill at the same speed. You can see that the rotor of motor No 2 spins therefore 5 times faster than the rotor of motor...

here is the full list of 9 potential brexit benefits: 1. Encourage fracking, shortcut rules on planning consultation via emergency act. 2. Abolish the EU regulations that restrict vacuum cleaner power to 1400 watts. 3. Remove precautionary principle restrictions (for instance) on early use of...

    Cheap e-bike? £600?

the disadvantage of those direct drive kits is clear when climbing a steep hill. Imagine doing that with your car stuck in fifth gear. The motor will not run in its sweet zone, the more you try to compensate for the lack of torque, the more current it will pump until the controller reaches its...

    Cheap e-bike? £600?

Freewheel: the motor has thread for a screw on freewheel, usually 6-7 speed, like this: Cassette: the motor has a freehub and will accept a 8-10 speed cassette, like this: Motors with cassette fitting (freehub) tend to cost a little more. Check your rear wheel and buy accordingly. If you...

Hybrid with internal gear hub: mid-drive or front hub kit?

I'd recommend a 250W TSDZ2 or BBS01 crank drive kit. The weight distribution is better, the torque range is also better suitable for hills. Avoid high power BBSes, they are the ones that can damage your hub gears.

BJ may bid 15bn. Never before, a tory government spent that much on benefits. The tories must be pretty desperate to hold on to him.

Apparently, there has been a rule changed. Ministers who lied to parliament no longer has to resign. Gov said. I saw that on the news yesterday.

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

for 15 miles commute (8 miles each way), may I suggest the Woosh Faro? It can be quite compact with folding pedals. If you turn the handlebars 90 degrees for storage, saves space too. It is lightweight (17kgs all in), easy to lift and carry, does not look electric and ride like a normal bike if...

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

I am surprised you found the Brompton as having too many niggling faults. To me, it's the best folding bike on the market and that is supported by their phenomenal success. It's sturdy, folds very well and quickly, easy to carry and easily electrified with my kit if you need it.
