Kona Ute mid-drive conversion: advice appreciated

I don't want to sound unkind, but I just can't see the point of these bikes, when a simple kids' trailer solves all cargo problems without interfering with handling, and you can take it off when you don't want to carry anything. Can somebody convince me that my thinking is wrong in case I'm...

Help! Left pedal falls off when PAS fitted.

There are two plastic ring spacers between the bottom bracket shell and the bottom bracket bearing holders. Remove them. then you should have enough spline to clamp the pedal to.

    Woosh santana petite

That's not enough info. How far can you ride it before that happens? How or when did it start. More often than not, it's because the motor connector isn't pushed in far enough.

    Controller question

I've just seen on the listing of that battery that it says maximum protection current 30 amps. That's the current at which it switches off. The continuous running current isn't specified, neither are the type of cells. In that case, the maximum current controller you can use is difficult to...

    Controller question

The best controllers are KT because you can adjust the power. A 12 mosfet one of around 25 to 30 amps should give enough power. You need at least 5 amps of headroom on your battery, so, if you get a 30 amp controller, you need a battery that can provide at least 35 amps continuous. Here we're...

    Controller question

You need to tell us whether the motor has hall sensors. If it is, you can use any controller for sensored motors. If not, your choice will be more limited.

    Help! TSDZ2 creaking noise

OK then. you're right. Start panicking because if you don't fix it your house might catch fire when the motor bursts into flames.

Anyone in the Bournemouth area who can help fix my bike?

Those symptoms point to the battery at the end of its life or with other problems. You can only confirm that by testing with a meter. The first test would be to measure its voltage after you've fully charged it. That can tell us a lot. How old is the battery? Do you know how many charges it's...

    Help! Roo Dog Mayfair

It must be full of rust. you'll have to open it and clean it out. It might need a new clutch and gears that don't cost much. One other thing before you open it. If any of the three main motor wires are touching each other, it'll also lock the motor, though, unless a mouse has chewed your cable...

    quick battery question

the first battery is 36v, so no. the other would be OK. Basically, what you need to look at is the maximum continuous discharge rate, which should be 25 amps or more. The 750w 48v version of the motor is 18 amps, and you need at least 5 amps of headroom.. I would guess that a 500w version would...

    Resistant when no battery

All the geared motors are much the same, but weight makes a difference on inclines, so get a small one. Why do you want a front motor and not a back one, which is always better?

    Brain power controller

Put the other wire to ground, and see if it pulses up or down. Also, the way it is now, check whether it pulses to zero volts when the magnet goes past. Basically, with the white wire not connected, measure it on the controller side. if it measures zero volts, you connect the second wire to 5v...

Kona Ute mid-drive conversion: advice appreciated

75 miles from a 48v 17.4Ah battery would be 8Wh/mile. At an average speed of 12 mph, that would be 100W average from the battery,or 80W at 10 mph; or 80W and 64W average assistance. If you pedalled at 100W and went up a 17% hill with an all-up weight of 150kg, assuming that your controller is...

    Help! TSDZ2 creaking noise

You're worrying unnecessarily. Creaking crank motors is just the motor moving slightly in the BB. It's annoying, but not a sign of impending doom.
