    Rockrider E-ST500

Looks OK for the money. Gearing might be too low for riding on the road. I'd want a much bigger chain wheel than that. 48T would be more like it. AFAICS, it has a 34T or 38T chain wheel. It would n't be too expensive to change it.

    Long range speed pedelec?

That's not going to work. In my prime, I was a hardened motorcyclist doing 40,000 miles a year in all weathers on a motorbike and commuting 35 miles each way. In the winter, that commute wasn't very pleasant. Speed pedelecs can reach 28 mph in the right conditions, but your cruising speed will...

Help! Bafang Hub motor... user serviceable?

Remember, some are left-handed threads and some right-handed. Let us know which yours is. If you can't shift it, use a hot air gun on the hub between the spokes. Get it up to a temperature where it's just about too hot to touch.

No type or colour of clothing works if the driver doesn't look.

    Brake pads

I use the cheapest pads from EBay. They don't seem to have any differences from OEM ones. Performance and life is the same. They last at least 3000 miles (M765 hydraulics). Pads for cable brakes wear or lot quicker, mainly because of alignment issues.

how drivers see you based on the clothes you wear.

There was a lot of research on this back in the '70s for motorcyclists. In the end, it was the intimidating effect of daytime headlights that made the difference.

    Long range speed pedelec?

It's not really practical to carry a spare battery unless it's a small one like Gtech. A Wisper with a 700wh battery will get you easily 40 miles at 20 mph. How far do you want to go?

Picking the second bike is worse than the first

The Cyclamatic Power Plus is not a bad bike, but it has a terrible control system and is quite weak at only 24 volts. It can be upgraded to a really nice bike for about £200 to £250 with a new 36v battery and control system. For that price, you get double the power, double the range, a silent...

Big fella, first bie sub £1500....

If it doesn't go over 15.5mph and doesn't have an "off-road switch" when being ridden on the road, it's legal.

Big fella, first bie sub £1500....

There's no law against substituting your battery, neither is there any law against carrying a booster battery in your pocked. We've debated this many time. The law says that off-road switches are not allowed. I can imagine that whoever wrote that law, had the idea about a simple on/off switch...

    Delfast "ebike"?

In case you didn't figure it out, that Delfast bike can't do 50 mph and 174 miles. You can have one or the other, not both at once. To get 174 miles, it's only 20 wh per mile from the 3500wh battery, which you'd get at around 15mph. 3KW is about as much as you get from a good 50cc moped. I...

    Battery 1st time charge

Charge up the battery until you get the green light. Take it off the charger straight away, then measure the voltage on the terminals. If it's the same voltage as the charger, it's already balanced, so you don't need to leave it on the charger for ages. For a 36V battery, I'd say forget about...

    Lightweight motors

I think 160 refers to the diameter, so it's a medium sized motor, though it has the battery inside it. from a heat point of view, that might be even worse. Who knows though, it might be a gem. here it is on their website https://www.keyde.com/?do=ebike Also, it's only rated at 6 amps (probably...

    Most expensive battery ever?

They say it's 17.5Ah and 630wh, which makes it 36v, yet the weight is 6kg. Assuming 2500mAh cells, it would contain 70 at 50g each, which makes 3.5kg, plus 1kg for the case max = 4.5kg!!!

    Yosepower hub kits.

Don't forget that you don't need as much current at 48v as you do with 36v. I use a 14 amp one, which i find is plenty of power for normal riding, including steep hills, though if I were commuting and wanted to cruise at over 20 mph, I'd probably go for higher current.

    battery percentage

Some of the more sophisticated batteries, like Bosch, have sleep mode, which shuts down the BMS so that you can leave them for a long time without any significant self discharge. This means that they can be stored at a lower voltage. Most ebike batteries don't have sleep mode, so the BMS is...
