There's no law against substituting your battery, neither is there any law against carrying a booster battery in your pocked. We've debated this many time. The law says that off-road switches are not allowed. I can imagine that whoever wrote that law, had the idea about a simple on/off switch...

They say it's 17.5Ah and 630wh, which makes it 36v, yet the weight is 6kg. Assuming 2500mAh cells, it would contain 70 at 50g each, which makes 3.5kg, plus 1kg for the case max = 4.5kg!!!

Don't forget that you don't need as much current at 48v as you do with 36v. I use a 14 amp one, which i find is plenty of power for normal riding, including steep hills, though if I were commuting and wanted to cruise at over 20 mph, I'd probably go for higher current.
