The problem with E-bikes in the UK.

The RAC did a survey that resulted in them telling government it was 25%, but it was an obviously flawed study. It's now widely believed that it's nearer a third of British households that cannot have access to their own chargepoint for various reasons. In London where electric cars would be...

    Do snowmen exist?

I see some women predictably supported the use of the term snowpeople instead of snowmen. Well if women want to be included in being cold, emotionless and very short lived, who am I to argue? .

    Forking bad luck

I can only say I hope next week brings better outcomes. The odds should be stacked that way now. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I'm afraid that's not disagreeing with Tom. David Dimbleby's pro establishment stance is inherently conservative and the last "labour" government was in fact New Labour and a form of conservatism, supporting and adding to Tory policies. Agreed. .

What use are hybrid vehicles really?

See this link's opening paragraphs to see the three ways these hybrid systems can work, integrated, parallel or series. The BMW i3 range extender is a series type, albeit a very poor one. Two others are the Chevrolet Volt and the Chinese BYD, and as the article says, this method is quite rare...

What use are hybrid vehicles really?

Away from London's congestion charges, you're right, there is no economic case for pure electric or plug in hybrid below about 5000 miles per annum. Both will ultimately be more expensive whether in the countryside or city and in economic terms my Leaf is simply an indulgent luxury. But of...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I've finally managed to get to listen to this program after an extended effort, but sorry Danidl, I have to say the RTE player is a total shambles. They really need to have a look at other broadcasters players to see how it should be done. The practice of naming a current affairs show with...

What use are hybrid vehicles really?

Non-plug in hybrids like the standard Toyota Prius have no chance of escaping the congestion charge. Many plug in ones can but it's often very marginal. For example, choose a higher spec model with larger alloy wheels and you can lose the exemption since their CO2 figure can tip over the line. .

What use are hybrid vehicles really?

You're speaking of the non-plug in hybrids like the original Toyota Prius. Moderately driven they do gain more miles per gallon through recovery, where the brakes would formerly have been used with that energy wasted as heat and wear. Toyota for example claimed 82 mpg, but owners typically get...

The problem with E-bikes in the UK.

They haven't been too successful though, only a tiny range extension with their silly little petrol tank and the 600 cc engine overheating. Good idea, poor execution. .

The problem with E-bikes in the UK.

I agree that far to many are out of action at any one time. It should be a very rare event for such simple devices. I don't see this as a problem. The batteries are low amidships between the wheels so well protected by the front and rear crumple zones. I see i.c cars are far more dangerous...

The problem with E-bikes in the UK.

I have a neighbour who after looking at my Leaf said he would never buy one due the range anxiety. Knowing he rarely used his car I quizzed him and found that almost all his light usage was very local and the furthest he ever went was to friends at Hastings one or twice each Summer. That's a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Danidl, unlike the BBC i-player I can't find any way to scroll back to an earlier program on the RTE player, only current and next or previous day's programs. If you can tell me the program name I can use the search facility to try to find that one. Edit: I've found it's "Marian Finucane" but...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I've given an Agree, but differ on this point. I'm sure that virtually the whole country are agreed on one thing, that the whole Leave process from referendum to the present is a totally unsatisfactory mess with at present no outcome possible that is acceptable to a clear majority. Therefore...
