    Regenerative Braking

There is an interesting story on a French velomobile site by a guy in Switzerland. His ride to work is all downhill and he uses regen mostly to be able to stop because without it he fries his hub brake pads (too steep for disks a set of pads doesn't last one trip!!!). So he as to remember to not...

Failed on my first big hill

I don't agree that a hub motor isn't as good a climber. I think it is a different kind of climber. Today I used granny gear on a few hills and as soon as I get Number Two (mid motor) finished I will be trying it out on that same road. My hub motor is as legal as they come. As well as the...

Hobby king multi star on offer

First real world test of Lipo over a full charge. I rode up into the foothills in Navarra for a beer (you always need a serious reason for going somewhere :D). Conditions: reasonably stiff southerly head wind the whole way. Had to use granny gear - 48-34 - on a few hills... The alarm went off...

Failed on my first big hill

Just got back from a ride into Navarra and had to use granny gear 3 or 4 times . That is 48-34. I am really going to put a sram 2 speed derailleur on the front so that I have 38-34 on tap because the mountain pass behind where I was is several kilometres long... Full ride report will be in...

Failed on my first big hill

My advantage is that the winter only lasts about 4 weeks, hardly enough time to get unfit :p

    New Gtech ebike

Viking Vienna would require battery on the rear rack but why not. Aluminium frame = mid motor for me.

Failed on my first big hill

I am missing something here, doesn't a torque sensor provide more power the harder you push on the pedals? That is what a rider does and so the much touted "natural" feel of a TS bike should work the same way. And at speed the lesser pressure means I need less power. Please explain.

Increasing the range on my Zephyr CDN

All battery wires I have seen are red and black. I have soldered XT60 plugs on mine and swap between two batteries. I also soldered XT60s to my Watt meter so I can plug it in there as well when I need to. I am going to use an idea I saw on ES for my custom battery box: two female plugs (Dean...

    Looking at a wisper 905se

I confirm that the attach points that slip over the axle have to be modified. I had to drill out the centre hole to 14 mm and also have the inset where the axle nut goes enlarged. I also had to remove a washer to have enough thread on the axle to put the nut back on. An attach point that fits on...

Failed on my first big hill

That looks kind of steep even on Google Earth photos. Then it doesn't look much steeper than the climb up from Behobie on the D180. Age has nothing to do with things, weight and fitness yes. 82 kg isn't overweight, I am 78 kg and my unfit weight is 81 kg. "Average fitness" doesn't exist, we all...

should ktm bikes sell sclass bikes without proof of private land.

You may have put your finger on something... Just go and read the websites of "respectable" French and German e-bike sellers, they are all offering throttles. You can't use one almost everywhere but that isn't stopping companies from making money. Same thing with kits for 50 cc mopeds, exhaust...

Bike is due for replacement (again). Best commuter for £1,000

LCDs are not prone to theft as they have no value, you can't do much with one. If they are removed it is pure vandalism .

Bike is due for replacement (again). Best commuter for £1,000

I was giving the "no effort applied by the rider" distance, I get 72 km from a 10.4 Ah battery if I don't pedal I get over 40 km.
