    Aldi

Huge LED power when used off-road, why not. But I ride on a busy road at night so I plunked down less than £28 for a b+m which lights the road correctly (wonderful beam shape) and is strong enough for oncoming cars to dip their lights before they see me. Oh and it has a German Sz mark which...

Bike is due for replacement (again). Best commuter for £1,000

On the flat yes a 13 Ah battery will be fine for 41 km, it should do 62 km with you providing very little effort.

Yes I have an external battery but it is a bit cumbersome behind the tablet. I think I'll have to stick it on with double sided tape...

    Charging pattern

Which is what I said in the second paragraph. I never expected the r/c packs to last more than a year and that was factored into my spreadsheet. I just went out for a ride and I thought I would test without the max speed limit of the motor and Lipo. The motor works as advertised drawing...

    Charging pattern

I'm buying more r/c Lipo :p With Lipo the 80% rule really does increase pack life so a 20 Ah battery provides in reality about 15 Ah usable capacity. Discharge rate of 1C or 2C is well under the 10C available these things make the bike pull like a train on the hills! For my longer range, on...

    Xiongda Hub Motor

The Montague road bike is on my short list of useful bikes to convert: - different frame sizes - 700C wheels full sized bike for longer distances - can be taken on the train or bus as free bagage when folded and bagged - will fit folded in my future boat - ... My choice would be to put a mid...

    bigger or smaller?

Small wheels spin faster than big wheels to cover the same distance. And it is some ungodly hour of the morning! I'm at work, what are your excuses? :p

So I went and looked at the iPads... That can wait till next year. The cheap phone will do nicely and it was my plan to put one on the handlebars later anyway - GPS, interface for Bluetooth enabled battery, hey why not a Bluetooth rearview mirror/camera/thang...

After 3 years use almost every day and charged almost every day too the battery of my nexus 7 seems to be on its last legs... Lets say 1000 charge/discharge cycles. I don't want to run out and get a new tablet because they don't make them like this, or if they do it is going to be twice the...

    Ebike battery alternative

The hill killed it maybe? The 3 mile easy bit didn't drag it down to its limit. SLA is very susceptible to heavy loads. Try starting a diesel car in the winter with an old battery, you can kill it beyond repair no problem.

My Li-ion I ride, I charge, if it is open road riding. Around town use I ride for several days or until it gets below 37.5 V. My Lipo I treat the way the people over at ES told me to... :D

BMS's, how do they work please?

Does a 10S Lipo BMS which has a LVC at 3.5-3.6 V per cell exist? All the ones I have seen have LVC set to 2.5 V per cell which makes such a BMS pretty useless. For the moment I ride with the voltage displayed on the LCD and Lipo alarms on the packs, I am just thinking ahead.

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

Petrol cars can run on LPG which is considered a clean fuel. I am surprised that BMW didn't go down the LPG route for the range extender in the i3. Roll your own electric car!

    Which kit?

The ability to mount a crank drive in an aluminium frame without worrying about breaking the dropouts is another people don't mention often. The most visible one is being able to use the gearing of your choice in the rear wheel, hub or derailleur it doesn't matter which you prefer. Oh and...

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

BMW i8 134 mpg, BMW i3 127 mpg (range extender version) etc. I chose the most visible cars but many other manufacturers are going down this road. Then we have Tesla which offers real world driving distances in an all electric. OK for a price but you all have computers, you know that early...

    Cheap Brompton Conversion Kit?

Thanks very much! I actually found the Japanese one later in the night by putting "spoke thread roller" in Google... Doh! Do you use it in the vice held machine? What do you use to cut them to length? Sorry to be a pain but you have the experience! As Tailor wheels don't do the needle bearing...
