    Brexit, for once some facts.

Knowing who Gove and Hunt are is irrelevant, having grown up in such a multi-racial country they do appreciate what in principle the EU means and why its a good thing. And as intensive smart phone users they probably also know the EU did away with roaming charges, worth a vote on that alone...

    New oldie

As you say Garry, their models all looked superficially the same and all had the rear carrier battery nmounting. It's good yours has the 250 watt rated motor and I understand they were still good performers with high current controllers. If you have or fit a bike speedo you'll be able to...

    New oldie

The only models I know of, the Alien Ocean and Aurora were produced to meet a demand for performance and they were powerful with 350 watt motors and good for about 20mph assisted, but these of course are illegal. The legal maximum permitted power rating is 250 watts and the assist speed limit...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

BMW is to shut it's Oxford Mini plant for a month from 1st April as we leave the EU. They are very dependent on the free flow of parts to and from the mainland EU, so with no certainty of a deal they are having to plan for the worst just in case. The time will be used for maintenance...

    Greetings from Ibiza

Welcome to the forum Nick, sorry to learn of your serious misfortunes but pleased that things seem to be taking a turn for the better at last. It seems you'll soon be able to wear the big smile that e-biking usually brings. Do let us know what you decide to buy and your impressions of it. .

warning signs apearing on lamposts s59

Same problem, the lack of suitable laws to deal with the various forms of off-road abuse. Trespass is an almost impossible law to use, the CPS will never use it, and getting a conviction under criminal trespass also has stumbing blocks. There's an over 100 year old law on taking a motor...

    Cycling hostility and decline

I'm afraid you wouldn't even hear the pedestrian warning sound since it's quite subdued. Driving very slowly with the windows open I can't hear it at all, despite the car being silent. .

    Frustrating 15.5 limit

Indeed, and that is what is concerning me. A succession of new posters are almost immediately asking about derestriction or dongles and it's clear that this has become widespread knowledge. Illegallity on this scale isn't sustainable, it could end in tears. The particular danger now that we...

    Derestricted or legal

They can't be, EN15194 technical approval is only for complete pedelecs. It includes dynamic testing procedures for the bike which a kit couldn't perform in isolation. .

    ‘Dongle’

I think a major problem is the way threads often turn into derestriction etc part way through for various reasons. Our lightly staffed Admin woud have to read every post but would still face the problem of a thread not originally a high speed one. To move or not to move. .

    Derestricted or legal

The published opinion of the DfT is that an e-bike is illegal if the rider has a switch available to increase the assist speed beyond the legal limit. I think if that were tested by the courts the DfT opinion could well be upheld since that is clearly the spirit of the law. However, just as...

    Derestricted or legal

Strictly speaking yes, but there's such a high proportion like that your poll could get distorted. I doubt the authorities will ever act against LCD alterable e-bikes, despite them being technically illegal as being under rider control, since they represent so much of the quality manufactured...

    ‘Dongle’

The problem is that this is an international site with American, German, Danish and Dutch members and within it is a forum titled: Speed Pedelecs (S-Pedelecs), Non-EAPCs & overseas Mentions of dongles, higher speeds and powers are ok in there. But they seep into the main electric bike forum...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Why do I have to keep pointing this out? There's no intransigence, the EU are merely asking us to stick to the rules we previously agreed. We signed up to those rules and they apply if we leave. We are being ridiculous in asking for a special deal that leaves us as well off as being in but not...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Why ask? Two of us have said a kit plate is not perfect. Nothing is, unregistered vehicles run around on false plates, so no doubt some illegal e-bikers would too. As I posted, the need for a kit plate is a deterrent, no more. .
