Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

I just couldn't, it goes against all my lifetime instincts. When I was young I sometimes got accused of being scared, or even on occasions of being a coward. For me they are just synonyms of cautious, and I'm the one who has never had a broken bone or permanent scar, unlike some of those...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

People vary tremendously in how accident prone they are. I'm at one extreme in avoidance, clean licence, full no claim bonus, never come off a motorbike in over 50 years of riding them, hardly ever off a pushbike, not a mark on me from any accident. While in here some members happily tell us...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Not so, Blunkett was one of the chief architects of New Labour, Blair's pseudo tory party in other words. Add that to Frank Field being someone who was formerly in the Tory party and a friend of Margaret Thatcher and it's little wonder the two of them gang up against a genuine socialist. They...

Regarding Eu-regulatives, ordering manufacturers of ebikes to make it more difficult to tune

In theory a fraction, but Bosch won't be logging in those. The data logging is on the road legal pedelec units. It's almost certainly due to EU requirements for compliance with the law rather than Bosch protecting itself. .

Regarding Eu-regulatives, ordering manufacturers of ebikes to make it more difficult to tune

If it's marketed as an off road high performance machine it's already to the Bosch S class maximum spec so a dongle wouldn't do anything. The dongles merely bypass the restriction that the legal pedelec units have. .

Regarding Eu-regulatives, ordering manufacturers of ebikes to make it more difficult to tune

I can't agree for a pedelec, since they are sold as being compliant with the EU wide law and therefore fit for that purpose. A dongle breaches that manufactured purpose so the liability is the owner's, not the supplier. .

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

It was the judge who put weight on both these aspects in his comments. But my point was about any charge being brought in the first instance, not the court case that follows. Of course the police will generally bring the most serious charge, having one brake missing wouldn't have put Allison...

Yes, I confirm that KTM have reported this logging now embedded in the Bosch unit log and the regulation change. .

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

The big issue in the Charlie Alliston case was that his bike was an illegal fixie with only a front brake, where by law it should have had two. That irresponsibility is what caused the media storm and made charging inevitable. A death doesn't necessarily lead to charges, in all the cyclist...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

I can't see why. The cyclist ahead of him and nearer to the kerb was proceeding at a more leisurely pace and he was only gaining on them slowly. Maybe 20 mph, but since when is that a dangerous speed for a bicycle? It's the norm in London commuting these days and far inside the speed limit...

Indeed, and why I said "If" charges are necessary, meaning in respect of the cyclist. Frankly I can't see that he is to blame in any way, it's perfectly normal for cyclists to keep to surrounding traffic speeds in town, whether e-assisted or not. The woman's liability if any is normally a...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Indeed, I raised the problem of an e-bike's status in respect of an accident on an adjacent thread. If charges are necessary, it may have to come down to using ancient cycling laws yet again, or possibly relying on laws that apply to us all, such as causing actual/grievous bodily harm. .

Panic does cause irrational reactions though and there are numerous instances of innocent people fleeing such incidents. The more serious the accident, the more likely it is to induce panic. He did hand himself in to the police later once he resumed thinking rationally. .

Man arrested after woman hurt in London e-bike collision

I don't see that there could be any vehicle usage based charge like dangerous driving, since they exist to control legally registered vehicles. A charge under those laws would constitute an acknowledgement of legality. And it couldn't be Furious Driving since that's a cycling charge and...
