    Things I didn't know......and confusion.

Agreed. I was posting about the way it's celebrated in modern times, by Americans as an American institution, pumpkins, trick or treat and all that. Which as you say they brought from this side of the pond long ago of course. .

They are normally lead-acid batteries though, very safe and no ban on them. It's lithium batteries that are the problem, a long history of spontaneous fires and explosions, including ripping a hole in the fuselage of one plane:

Ideally I agree, but I recognise that it might not always be possible. There's no great harm in them being fully charged, the BMS gradually bleeds down the charge. Below from Battery University are capacity reductions at the temperature stated, the first figure at the ideal of 40% storage...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Small correction, Norway was never in the EU so cannot rejoin. Indeed their government does want to join. Their referendum was asking the people to support joining, but they rejected that in favour of continuing with their EEA style arrangement. .

But the fault in that line is the word British. You correctly said you were a citizen of the UK but should also have said you were a citizen of Britain, which is an area, not a nation. If you research this subject as I did long ago you'll find I'm correct. .

Precisely, accuracy of 5 to10 metres. That's not remotely good enough for a huge number of applications and certainly not good enough to guide cars. All it does is give a rough position, good enough for speed over ground measurement and other such inexacting applications, but hardly precise...

An aside. No-one is British, there is no such nationality despite the government's attempts to classify those immigrants adopting nationality as British citizens. England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are nations so one can have those nationalities. Britain is not a nation, it is a federation...

I was posting about this a little while ago, Greece is not broke, it's extremely wealthy. They have problems with wealth distribution, tax collection and excessive miltary expenditure which they need to sort, but shortage of money is not one the problems. Their income from their dominant...

A buoy is easy, they're comparatively big. It's not a field I or someone else needs to return to, GPS isn't needed for that. Try finding a 1 cm radius nest hole of a rare bee that's been spotted in the 16 foot radius circle of ground the US system points to, when it's covered with mixed dense...

While primarily for military accuracy gain, the Gallileo project announcement did promise very much great accuracy for the consumer too. See my post above. The possible problem that I see is how much equipment producers will incorporate Galileo into consumer products like SatNavs and Cameras. . .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

My interest is only in the positional accuracy with consumer mode usage. The best I can get with the US system is often around 6 feet off and quite often 8 feet off, and that isn't remotely good enough for many natural history usages. Galileo's intended consumer accuracy when completed is...

    Disc Brakes

If you put the bikes away long term, be sure to recharge the batteries every two months, no longer. If lithium batteries are left long term and discharge to empty the cells can fail, leaving the battery useless. .

Although I've given an "agree", truly driverless cars are a very long way off. There are many other applications now that need even great accuracy than driverless cars. As for road changes, we do that in London too. Some while ago on a familiar inner London route the road I usually drove the...

Thank you Danidl, it's pleasure to read such truth and good sense about nuclear power in this age when there is so much misinformation about it. Regarding the creation matter, you may have misunderstood what I posted about returning nuclear waste to the earth's core for recycling since I didn't...

The full accuracy only for the military, yes of course, but Galileo is more accurate at consumer level too. Hence my ongoing interest over the years for I have other uses for it in natural history. I and others need greater placement accuracy than the 6 to 8 feet at best in any direction of...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

We'll probably continue with our present arrangement for use of the USA's system. I don't agree that Galileo will be a white elephant. It's a substantial upgrade on the US system which is why the Americans tried their hardest to stop the EU developing it. And not only a military upgrade...

That's a choice of ways to express things Adam. As usual, each country has their own way(s), European, American, Oriental etc. Use the simple one, 700 x 40C. The 700 and the C are the nominal rim type and size, the 40 the tyre width in millimetres. On that web page I linked to the first...
