    Front or rear hub ?

I wanted to buy the cheapest kit available and that is most often than not front wheel hub. I decided that I needed some more serious hill climbing ability in the wet so bit the bullet, went over budget and put in a rear wheel hub. Like all new wheels I checked the spokes after 50 km and lo and...

Unfit, overweight, bad knees, no hair but own teeth!

There is a difference between turning the pedals and pushing on the pedals. I have rugby knees myself but am fortunate in that they only go bad when the weather turns to freezing (hence my migration further and further south...). Last week I went to Hendaye to a RDV with my girlfriend and as...

    My new project(s)

I have thought about a fibreglass/epoxy box. Maybe I will go there eventually but for the moment I need to be mobile every day. A winter project why not. Along with a nice stealth matt black paint job on the frame which is way to pretty at the moment, a real thief magnet.

    My new project(s)

An update because my project just got a little more complicated... I am now the proud (?) owner of this bike A friend gave it to me (sound familiar? ) He hasn't told me the story yet but I am pretty sure that it is "road kill", probably fell of someone's trailer or rear rack (you...

    Oxydrive kits

I might agree with you on that for 28" wheels but my forearms beg to disagree with 26" ones. I am willing to give up a little speed for more comfort on down hill runs. The problem with forks that have a lockout button on the handlebar for climbing are way out of my price range.

Dahon vitesse d8 has anybody converted one please

Yep we talked about it for my friend. They also had a whole heap of batteries with Samsung cells up the other day marked as new. Change is afoot, new range of batteries coming perhaps which were announced before they got rid of the old stock?

Dahon vitesse d8 has anybody converted one please

I thought about putting the 09 battery on the rack of a Decathlon BFOLD 500 using a couple of aluminium brackets to screw the battery holder to. That way if you need to park for a while you take the battery off with you. The problem with the above bike is that it needs wheels and tyres + various...

    18650 explosion ('EE power bar')

My Nikon stopped charging and when I took the battery out it took a bit of skill because it had swelled up "a little". LiPo I think seeing the sall rectangular shape? In any case makes you think. I had a cheap rechargeable AA go up in smoke in the charger last year. Yes I was out at the time...

    Stop hating ebikes

Ahem... You are not a member of the working poor! (It was not my career goal but accidents do happen.) I have priced a home build from quality components (frame, fork, Rohloff, BBS01, the lot...) and was surprised that I could build a reasonable quality bike for a lot less than a complete...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

We have all guessed that there are member states just itching to tax bicycles, my guess is that this number plate provision is just some planing ahead by the powers that be. and "Annex IX Lighting and light signalling devices L1e-A White headlamp, red rear light, amber side reflectors, amber...

    Lithium Battery Woes

Lucky you didn't attract the attention of head hunting Kanaks :p Nickel mining is pretty messy and there are people who are allergic to certain alloys containing nickel. Does that make you feel better? :)

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

For kits what we need basically to be legal is an LCD which does not give the user access to the set-up screens or to at least prevent from changing max speed and wheel diameter settings. Do you think that our Chinese friends will catch on to that need someday soon? Of course hardcore hacker...

    Best Value Electric MTB

The constructors wanting to make as large a profit as possible will of course make a motor that will pass that test with the cheapest components available to them. And of course a smaller cheaper to build motor will be lighter which also has its advantages. Unfortunately some of our Chinese...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

I asked locally about approval for an electric moped and the guy kicked for touch telling me I would have to go to Paris to be controlled. The French moped specifics that made me stop trying are: Speed limited to 45 kph, even pedalling on the flat or downhill not just motor cut-out. Of course...

    Best Value Electric MTB

From my reading of EN 15194 once the motor has reached a steady temperature it has to be able to produce 250 W for several hours without temperature/power output variation within pre-defined tolerances. All very voodoo gri-gri magical stuff performed in very expensive test labs by boffins in...

    rear carrier cover

The only people who put covers on their bikes behind a vehicle are camping van drivers. Because of the reasons d8veh gives above it is impossible for cars and because the "aerodynamics" or rather the lack of behind a van bikes get filthy. If your bike rack is behind a van and out of the...
