    Brexit, for once some facts.

It's the Tory propaganda machine that's responsible, helped as usual by the media to give a totally false impression. Watching "The Sunday Politics" today one would have thought the local elections were a Tory triumph, so biased were the interviewers in talking over and shouting down anyone...

    Giant LaFree panasonic crank motor

As the intention is to upgrade the Giant to an R & M, perhaps Roby77 is trying to kill two birds with one stone. ;) .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

What mattered is that Labour won in London with an overall increase in council seats, while the Tories lost seats and councils. It was the best London Labour result since 1971, solidly reinforcing their two thirds hold on the capital. And the LibDems won back their past three boroughs segment...

    Posting in wrong sections

I don't notice when it happens since I enter via the Forums dropdown menu and select New Posts. That shows me what's appeared since my last entry, without making it obvious which forum they are in. You're right though, the Beach Bikes and Gravel Bikes threads shouldn't be in The Charging Post...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

The letter makes clear that they are to be "outside the scope of general traffic regulations", so no insurance necessary. .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

More than a glimmer Ted, I'd say you are both safe to ride your pedelecs again, the police attitude made clear now. What a pity though that this didn't come before buying the Bromptons. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Untrue, they are opposing the Tories with these key policies: Wanting a Customs Union with the EU after Brexit. Renationalise Britains railways. Investment instead of austerity. These and many others are completely the opposite of Tory policies. .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Excellent, carrying a printout of this makes a lot of sense, and it will make pedelecers in N.I. feel much more confident that they are not at risk. All they need do is ride sensibly and comply with all normal traffic law. .

    Fat bikes on beach

No brakes and they weren't adjustable bearings, it used proprietary sealed ball bearings which should not get hot as you say. But despite being grease packed they did, the hubs always hot on arrival. It was a small wheeled trailer and I used to shift which may have had something to do with...

    Fat bikes on beach

The trouble I had when launching into the sea many years ago after a longish run to the coast was the trailer wheel bearings. Dunking the hot hubs into the cold sea rapidly cooled them and sucked in sea water past the seals. The resulting corrosion wrecked the wheel bearings twice, so I left...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

Speed increase isn't linear. Two to three times power increase means nothing like the same speed increase, and anyway the 15.5 mph limit intrudes. The gain is in climb speed on steeper hills As you say we'll have to agree to disagree. I'll stick with the widely reported fact of the greatly...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

Following Shimano's early protests about exceeding the torque limts of their hub gears, Bosch reduced the power of units sold for hub gear e-bikes, Regardless of that, as you know large number of today's crank unit users are suffering ridiculously short chain and sprocket lives. And the reason...

Is the Raleigh Strada TSE any good?

The only thing I know about the TransX motor is that it's Taiwan's first serious step into crank units, and it's small size led the way in that direction, others following in size reduction. It's been around for at least three years and I don't know why it hasn't been more widely adopted...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

Hop on a light one and you'll be astonished at how little effort it takes to accelerate. It's not just the weight, the skinny high pressure tyres make a huge difference. It's not a tiny bit though, the damage is done in acceleration and hill climbing. The averagely fit rider can deliver...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

Two observations. First up to 500 watts of motor plus 300 watts of average fit rider through acceleration from a standstill is very much more than most averagely fit cyclists will put in then. Second the very light bikes that the fittest riders use take much less effort to accelerate than a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Completely based on a deliberate lie, the lie that we need to be out of the EU to trade worldwide. The only thing that stops us trading worldwide from within the EU is incompetence, nothing else, here's the proofs: 1) Our successful companies do trade worldwide, we supply Rolls Royce jet...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Exactly. The outcome was no change, the country divided Labour/Tory as before, just as it is divided on Brexit. The recovery of the LibDems is bad news for Brexiters though, part of the general shift away from the referendum outcome. .

Pleasant ride, sunshine but something missing?

Internationally the position is different, the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic ruled that all bicycles have to have bells fitted. Whether that applies depends on whether each country is a signatory. Being a visitor with a bike is no excuse, their bikes have to be so equipped in...
