    Brexit, for once some facts.

The sanctions against Russia are a joke. Firstly they have strengthened the Russian economy since they've risen to the challenge of making good the deficits themselves, reducing their unemployment. They've also hurt us since they won't return to our supplies. An example is that they'd...

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

There is no such charge as riding a non EPAC, so charges have to be based on some aspect of motor vehicle law. Generally speaking the police avoid being vindictive and throwing the whole book at offenders, preferring to use the most suitable individual charge. That usually results in a...

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

This has nothing to do with Guernsey which is what we are discussing. They make their own laws and are not part of the UK. .

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

It was probably one of the Chinese DD kit motors which can be around 2000 watts or more and capable of that speed. Or a ready made bike using one of those like those from Xipi. This firm lists 35 mph and 50 mph e-bike kits if you scroll down, plus 3000 watt and 6000 watt hub motors. .

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

I'm quite sure it was a power only tested speed, from what I know of the previous case they clearly understand the EAPC law. They make their own laws but with this issue just adopt ours unchanged into their legislation. .

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

They can be quite thorough there, perhaps checked it against a car running with it. This has to be viewed in the context of that little 9 miles by 4 miles island. There's an overall 35 mph speed limit and in addition many urban approach roads and parishes have a 25 mph speed limit. Their...

Guernsey first to apply ebike law?

It seems Guernsey are determined to be in the lead in enforcing EAPC law. Many years ago when the EAPC power limit was 200 watts they acted against an e-bike hire shop who were hiring out 250 watt e-bikes. .

Has anyone looked at Go-ebike ONwheel?

There have been many friction drive motors over all the years of e-biking but none have lasted very long in the market. That quite simply is because they are the worst possible way of power assisting a bike, variously suffering limited power transfer, drive slippage especially in the wet, tyre...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The falsehood about EU regulations was published by the Express newspaper, and it clearly was a falsehood as they admitted later in the article: And while EU rules state apprenticeships should not be affected by state aid restrictions, a lack of clarity in corresponding UK regulations has led...

Good name, but unfortunately already used on this e-folder. They've also used the Puma name on an e-folder model, so have cornered the cat name market. Though not yet used Cheetah might be apposite for an electric bike. :D .

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

They'll naturally be dealt with under motor vehicle law, which is entirely right and proper since they will be riding a moped. If found guilty the guideline penalty for causing death by dangerous driving is two years imprisonment and that is the most common sentence. However as I posted...

Apple don't seem to have suffered too badly from their choice of name, and Tangerine did ok in their heyday. Years ago Datsun's Cherry small car sold very well too. No-one seems to want to go bananas though and nobody wants to be sold a lemon. :) .

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

It's important to keep a sense of proportion. This law hasn't happened yet, may never happen and if it does, will very rarely be used as I've posted. Politicians seek popularity and often make such opportunist announcements. I'm treating it with the proverbial pinch of salt. .

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

Not a good argument to make, since cycling represents 3% of journeys in the UK. So that 4% spent on us seems to be an overspend! That £1.2 billions is probably true, London alone has spent over half a billion in that time. .

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

There's actually no legal deterrent, UK law is entirely predicated on the vehicle user being responsible for avoidance. There's only advisory guidance for pedestrians such as that in the Highway Code which virtually no pedestrians ever read. This isn't uncommon, only a few countries have...

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

Britain hates cyclists, we just have to live with it, but there are plenty of pluses to be happy about. For example: Governments local and national including our own are very keen to promote cycling and in many areas are taking active steps to do that. A perception that bikes can be dangerous...
