The letter of the law says 250w max continuous rating without overheating, No where though have I seen anywhere that states the max amps or even voltage, but 48v is always spoken of as the max allowed. Though enough amps at 36 or 48v could make any motor get hot.

Different colour wires just means you have to connect the right ones together if you know which ones are GND, 5v and signal. For help you need to show some pics. But also 2 or 3 times it has been said that compatibility is an issue, the programming protocols will be different.

Details of bike and battery storage is needed. Damp/moisture can play havoc with all electric components if left outside esp batteries and wire joints. Connectors etc can corrode or become tarnished with light rust, damp can also affect. Bikes just left outside under a sheet/plastic cover is...
