    Buying my first e-bike

a lot of improvement has been brought into hub motors since you bought your UM20. Until last year, if you want torque, you have to have a crank drive. I sold about as many CD bikes as hub bikes in 2014, 15 and 16. Only the last 12 months I see my hub bikes outselling my CD bikes. Motors like...

    Buying my first e-bike

that's is a gross approximation. When did you ride a hub motor bike last? Firstly, there are a lot more hub motor bikes sold than crank driven bikes. Secondly, did you ask people who ride hub bikes if they feel 'like someone pushing you at constant speed from the back'? I am not against the...

    Buying my first e-bike

one thing is fairly well proven, compared to bikes with mid motor, the cost of ownership of a bike with hub motor is consistently lower and the ride is more relaxed.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

that depends mainly on how the question is presented. To me, true or false is one shade of grey. VEB is an old bank, RBS is a global bank, so it's normal that RBS lends money that it borrows elsewhere to VEB, and there is no reason for VEB to tell RBS what it will do with the money. This is a...

that extrapolation is a bit to far. Banks borrow from one another, what you should have said is how much is their involvement in those futile projects.

my years spent at uni taught me to how to teach myself, to scrutinize and to improve. The contents of the courses are mostly forgotten more or less immediately after sitting the exams.

Two new Woosh bikes are on the way

with the 4" tyres? We only got a small numbers, which were sold out from the shop. I am getting the fat bikes with Bafang MaxDrive next week - they have 4" tyres on them but don't know if the rims are double walled or not. I'll post pictures of the rims later.

may be not but not just sociology. My son has 5 degrees, all in engineering, but he is so clumsy with his hands that I much prefer he sticks to the keyboard.

Don't under-estimate the usefulness of sociology. You wouldn't have brexit if more students take it at AS or A level. It teaches our young students Religion Power, politics and protest Social policy and welfare World sociology Theory and methods Crime and deviance Stratification and social...

apparently not, but I still prefer her letting parliament to take the lead. £3000 is still too much. The current system is expensive and produces too many useless degrees. Worse still, it discourages young people to take on worthwhile careers that involve physical work.

    What electric mountain bike.

the Big Bear has loads of torque from its large Bafang BPM motor but it is not a bike to take off-road because the motor is at the front, you can lose traction. The Bali, Rio MTB and the Rio FB are much more suited.

    Torque

To approximate the torque at the rear wheel, let's say you have a 16T front sprocket on your Bosch CX. The internal scaling factor is 2.5, that front sprocket is the same as a 16T * 2.5 = 40T chain ring on a normal bike. with a CD motor, you can select a different sprocket at the rear, smaller...

    What electric mountain bike.

The Big Bear has already a throttle. It is shipped unplugged though. You only have to plug it in, 5 second job.
