Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

Niggle, the Sport CD is with reference to d8veh's post, re. 'evidence of one going for thousands of miles without attention' That one did just that, 2,6xx miles without special attention. For your wife, there is also a second hand Woosh Santana CD currently for sale. That bike has a 15AH...

I reckon it needs a 15AH battery to do it justice.

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

Hello Niggle, I realize that you want to convert one of your bikes but I thought it may help your decision to look at a few ready made step through bikes for comparison. From my range, I would suggest: the £749 Woosh Crusa. I reckon to build the same bike with new components, it would cost you...

    Automatic ???

If your wife does not like changing gears (trust me, the majority of my customers also don't), then my advice is to go for a large geared hub motor like the Ezee. These motors have so much power in reserve that will flatten any hill even without much pedaling, making gear change totally (or...

worn brake pads and intermittent power loss

don't take the word of the shop too literally, check the pads if they are truly worn and how evenly they are worn. Sometimes it's just a matter of adjusting. Pads on hydraulic brakes are hard wearing, especially on the rear.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I thought he meant to opt out of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR and ECtHR). Two contentious points wind up the zealots: respect for family life and freedom of expression.

Battery upgrade for Cycloctricty Stealth 1000w

Agreed. Motor efficiency (the ratio of kinetic energy output / battery energy input) is zero when stalling, then gradually increases with RPM then decreases past the peak back to zero again. Andy's and RobH's kits have a direct drive motor, they don't have internal gearbox so the yield remains...

Advice please for a "commuter bike"

Perseus, I agree with most of what you say but I think it depends on the bike. I have in my range the Karoo that I think will suit high milers. The step through version of this bike is the Crusa. I think the Crusa would suit the wife's physique (5ft 8", around 14 stone). Quick points about...

    More new battery technology

A graph from that website: Forget the blue line, you and I may be dead and gone by then, the bottom line (other solid polymers) is where we are at. I studied ion-exchange membranes at uni in the early 70s. Looking back at the progress in the last 40 years, I can only sigh.

Anyone going to TfL London e-bike industry forum today?

Summary of the TFL meeting: TFL were anxious to make it clear that money was an issue in terms of perhaps buying or renting out e bikes on a large scale as in the 'Boris/Santander' category. Costs would be probitive in view of all the extras needed to ensure batteries are securely locked and...
