Accident with a pedestrian on my ebike

Yes, that does qualify any legal EAPC, aka pedelec, for cover. .

    Kappstein 3 speed motor

Interesting, but no point in a UK/EU legal pedelec. Two motor gears easily cover the 5 to 15 mph riding speed range. .

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

I've only got a casual answer that it's with battery, but I'd have to check properly. I can't get into discussion yet though with no prospect of charge power within about 10 weeks on current lead times. It would have to be with battery though, since there's a deal up to the 31st March on new...

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

I'm looking at the discount deals on Leafs that crop up from time to time subsidising the electricity installation. For example, last winter in November/December, Nissan dealers were offering new factory-fresh Visia models at very low prices, the two best reduced from list price of £21340 with...

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

Having driven a Leaf on a test drive, I can well understand the attraction. Being retired like you it now starts to make sense for me at last, after a decade of watching the progress of EVs and them not meeting my earlier needs. But I have the problem of a remote garage with no electricity...

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

I completely agree on all the negatives Dave, I don't think full electrics make any sense and so-called hybrids like the earlier Prius are simply petrol cars which if driven a certain way can return a slightly higher mpg. True hybrids like the BMW i3, Chevrolet Volt etc do make sense since they...

Humane way of scaring off unwanted neighbourhood cats

That's so typical of domestic cats, they decide where to live. Most of the appeals about a missing cat are due to the cat moving to another household that it likes better and I've known a number of proven cases of that. Even the apparently contented ones almost invariably have a fallback home...

I own a Nissan Leaf ev, and considering an electric bike

Pending Bob coming back in, as I'm currently looking at the Leaf car option I can post about the latest models specs. Yes, it's all electric, battery choice of 24 kWh on any model or 30kWh option on upper two models, Acenta and Tekna Latest air con on upper two models now uses a heat pump to...

Wondering if my lovely Raleigh Superbe can be converted to Pedalec?

Ideally the dropout width should be 100mm athough a small discrepancy won't matter since steel forks can be safely stretched out wider. There's also the odd motors of 80/85 mm width suitable for folders, but they tend to be the less powerful ones so not as suitable. Today's geared hub motors...

Accident with a pedestrian on my ebike

From what you've said, the delay to date, and my knowledge of similar accidents, I'm sure you won't hear anything more. The police are careful to make a check on each cycling accident involving any possible injury following the large spate of cyclist deaths over a year ago. There was also an...

Wondering if my lovely Raleigh Superbe can be converted to Pedalec?

36 spokes is perfect, since that is what most hub motors use. There shouldn't be any difficulty in accessing spokes either. While I agree that direct drive motors have less to go wrong, they are rather large diameter so tend to spoil the appearance of a bike like yours, and are not so good...

Wondering if my lovely Raleigh Superbe can be converted to Pedalec?

I think an internally geared front hub motor would be more discreet, less likely to spoil the appearance of the bike as well as being more capable of pulling the weight uphill. First important point though is how many spokes are there in the front wheel? .

    Going forward while looking back

An alternative is a rack bag that sits on top of the small Gallego rack. If mounted well forward on the rack it should still allow the fold while attached. Here's an example of one designed for folding bikes. .

Can someone identify this bike, in order to find a battery?

Your e-bike is a GMB L'Avenir which was made in Taiwan and also sold under the name Merida 500 or 510. In some of them it used a 24 volt 10Ah lithium battery, but at one time earlier it was SLA equipped. Knowing the battery connectors will reveal which your is. Other than knowing it was rated...

    Old age?

Only a few of the very best batteries on e-bikes with kind battery care systems last longer than three years. The great majority of e-bike batteries either fail between two and three years or are well down on performance by then. .

Accident with a pedestrian on my ebike

To some extent the distance from the lights is important. If the accident was less than 30 ft/10 metres from the green lights, the woman's action in crossing there was irresponsible and she is to blame for not taking advantage of a lights change to cross the road. The reason I quote that...

Buying the right bike for the right reasons

Just looked in on this thread for the first time Phill, and am surprised that your question on the shock position hasn't been answered. Basically a direct acting suspension unit between the rear pivoting section and main frame in a bicycle is inefficient. The reason is that pedal down thrust...
