I don't need that Ctrl ++ dodge for text, my eyesight is even better than when I was a teenager since getting old age cataracts fixed privately with the monovision method. But it's on the Natural History Museum website where I work doing identifications for the public that Ctrl ++ comes in...

I have owned electric bikes for 12 years

Once you prise off those covers you'll see the expected six connectors and their thick current carrying wires. The rest is just all the other wiring led through the battery box to keep it hidden and won't affect your battery voltage readings. I'm not familiar with these later model Powabyke...

I have owned electric bikes for 12 years

They have had a few throttle troubles, and a dry joint is always possible. However, since this has happened quite suddenly I suspect one or more cells of one of the batteries could have gone down. If you have a multimeter or DC voltmeter, check the voltages of the three batteries after a short...

The sort of driver we all hate

Yes I saw that one, a terrible bit of driving. It's been said that for genetic reasons many women have poor spatial awareness and cannot judge speed and distance well, and looking at that video I wonder if that was the case here, thinking she had enough time and space. It could account for...

Another Cycle Rage Incident..........but with a twist

I agree the cyclist could easily have touched the car, but I can't see anything wrong with that distance. As a London cyclist I bet you could touch many of the cars passing you or that you pass, I know I can. Since the driver didn't react by shouting or blasting his horn at the time of the...

The sort of driver we all hate

Nasty, but you must have been on the tram tracks at the time, rarely a good idea. I avoid them like the plague. .

Another Cycle Rage Incident..........but with a twist

There will always be different views on these situations, and I don't agree that the driver passed too close. I'm regularly passed at least as close in my London borough and I don't flinch at that our roads being often too narrow to allow yards of space. In reality how close the pass is often...

The sort of driver we all hate

No cyclist involved this time, but a high speed car crash with a 36 ton Tram in my home town, derailing the tram. The 26 year old woman driver had jumped the red traffic lights at speed, passing a stationary car at the lights. Police have since arrested her for drink driving. Link to video...

Bike suitable for child seat and able to tackle a hill?

Most folders are with wheels 20" or smaller so not too suitable for a child seat. They are also usually short wheelbase and a child's weight overhanging on the rear when going uphill might prompt a big wheelie and tipping over backwards. The few full size folders are crossbar frame, and that...

Bike suitable for child seat and able to tackle a hill?

Yes, definitely possible, and a step-through is probably best since you won't want to kick the little one in the head in swinging your leg over. A powerful option for hill climbing is the Woosh Big Bear LS front hub motor bike, Link to view. If you prefer a crank drive bike, perhaps a bit...

    Accelerator and new law question

You'd probably get away with this, so long as you can show that the e-bike is genuinely pre 2016. However, strictly speaking still not legal if the vintage bike wasn't originally supplied with a throttle, since you'd be converting from the original specification which may have been approved to...

Another Cycle Rage Incident..........but with a twist

He wasn't, there was in fact plenty of space for the car to pass. But if that cyclist wanted lots of clearance, he could have biased left on hearing the car coming up behind since there were no cars parked at that point. That's what I would have done as a matter of courtesy to ease the way for...

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

You'd typed your message above the last entry of this: which was the end of the original quotation. Typing it after leaves your text separate. .

    Accelerator and new law question

Not really, since you would be modifying after the applicable date. The bike's approval to standards like EN15194 remains what it was supplied as, pedelec only. You would be converting it to one needing a type approval, so you'd need to take it through SVA. .

Another Cycle Rage Incident..........but with a twist

I agree with Eddie, I'm sick of these arrogant "little Hitler" cyclists who think they can obstruct and then verbally attack drivers, they give us all a bad name. If the cyclist was in any way a decent road user, sharing the roads, he'd have moved over a little for the car driver to pass with...

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

Re: Bosch crank motor versus hub motor. These e-bike systems are very different in use, so it's important to try each since the choice is very personal. It's not uncommon for someone to hate one but like the other, very much a marmite thing in practice. .

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

It's the stop-starting to take notes etc when doing the knowledge that will shorten the range though, the much lower efficiency of any electric motor when accelerating from a standstill each time draining current. I think 20 Ah would be enough though, so the 2 x 11 Ah should meet Lee's needs. .

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

Yes, I did advise Lee that a Direct Drive motor is optimal for the most reliable long term use, and the Heinzmann one is as good as such motor can be. He'd need it coupled to plenty of battery capacity for 50 miles of stop-start daily use. .
