    L1e-A testing requirements

I don't think there's anything definitive yet on this issue. We still seem to only have the 2013 draft for the type approval of L1e-A and L1e-B and from some statements that also appears to have been changed in certain details. The most important thing to note is the recent introduction of a...

Cadence Sensor, Torque Sensor or Throttle?

This has always been the predicament of the e-bike makers and suppliers of course, no consensus on what an e-bike should be. Very unlike the car market where patterns of popularity have emerged, for example, the FWD hatchback for all the smaller car ranges. The poor e-bike suppliers still have...

Difficulties getting an e-car, Part 2

I doubt a towbar can be fitted, though I don't know for certain. That whole rear underfloor area is where the battery casing is, hence no spare wheel, so probably little or nothing structural to bolt to. Someone reported in here very recently getting a Renault Zoe for £10,000, but that was...

    Trigger's Broom

I belatedly realised this question hadn't been answered. The EU wide Low Powered Moped class has long existed and has the same assist speed restriction as pedelecs, 25 kph (15.5 mph). They are somewhat bicycle in nature and have up to 1000 watts rating permitted, can have throttle control but...

But Germany not alone in this of course. The Dutch who have an all-important cycle industry plus the two largest groups, Accell and Pon Holdings, are very willing to help impose these stiff barriers. Italy, Spain and France aren't averse to agreeing too, since they have strong bike and...

buying a ebike battery from germany do i pay vat/tax

88 euros at 1.24 euros per £ = just under £71. Your £49 + £21 is also just under £71 The £49 was €60.76 including the 19% VAT, so the net price of the dish was €51 (£41.13) and the VAT €9.76 (£7.87). Add back together the bracketed £41.13 and £7.87 and you get back to that £49 for the dish...

It's actually the EU wide Low Powered Moped class that we also have in the UK, but with different local regulation. Such things as helmets, insurance, registration and licencing are issues that member countries can decide for themselves within their own borders, since they are rider issues...

buying a ebike battery from germany do i pay vat/tax

The rule is that one pays the rate in the country where the purchase is transacted. That means if I buy here in the UK, I pay the UK rate. but if temporarily living in or visiting another EU country and I buy while physically there, I pay their rate even though I'm bringing the item back to the...

Here this is true, but they are probably also concerned about the spreading S class, already in Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium and soon France as well. These are e-bikes and have made huge inroads into moped sales elsewhere, little wonder since with the same 45kph allowed they...

buying a ebike battery from germany do i pay vat/tax

Yes it's as Yamdude says, the difference taxing is more theoretical than actual. I've never been charged it either. Sometimes the rules are just too impractical to apply. .

buying a ebike battery from germany do i pay vat/tax

You are liable for VAT at the rate applicable in the member country you live in, but our 20% rate is almost identical to the German 19% so little difference even if ours is applied. .

Perhaps we are at cross purposes, I haven't mentioned those groups. When I posted this: "Sadly they are sometimes also e-bikers biggest enemy," I meant motorcycle trade/industry interests, not motorcyclists. My fault, I should have been more specific and I can see how that could seem to mean...

Disabled people, why not write to your MP about throttles

They did it for Germany (Switzerland outside the EU did their own thing), but they sought and got EU approval at the time. They also later sought and got EU approval for the increase in S class permitted power from 250 Watts to 500 Watts, that last measure was delayed by several months after...

    Trigger's Broom

There's no ambiguity or rumour involved, motorcycle interests have been the main opposition to liberalisation of ebike rules here and in the EU, and David Miall in his past BEBA capacity among others has said as much on various occasions. The motorcycle interest groups are invited to and attend...
