    Cyclist fined for speeding

Agreed, but at least there's no on-the-spot penalty ticket and fine for Furious Cycling. A case has to be made. .

How much water/abuse can an ebike handle?

If only because my soaking wet feet were freezing for the rest of the ride home. It was 7 degrees C that day but to my tootsies it felt like minus 7 then! .

    Cyclist fined for speeding

The UK national speed limits are motor vehicle law and don't apply to cyclists so they are free to do any speed on the highway. But certain roads provided by others can have limits set by the provider, in this case the Royal Parks Authorities. You may have no royalty with authority in France...

    flykly - legal kickped apparently

As I posted above, I'm not entirely confident of it's legality but haven't ruled it out since a test case could well rule it legal. What counts in that circumstance is the spirit of the law, and the spirit of the law in this instance is that when human propulsion ceases, power must cease too...

    flykly - legal kickped apparently

They are depending on kick detection for the motor to operate, smart idea, but I'm not entirely confident the authorities will accept this as an alternative to pedals, since the law clearly states pedalling is the legal control method. .

Panasonic 2005 Giant LA Free Lite Replacement Power Control Switch

It may not be the switch. These Panasonic units suffered a fault that could crop up at some time during life which left the unit only on Eco whether put to On or Eco. It's an unrepairable fault in the encapsulated circuit board, Panasonic just recommended replacing the whole unit. However, if...

    Danish cycling

There's no comprehensive information on this, but it's normally the case that nearly all the cyclists killed in London each year were wearing a helmet. Of the eight killed so far this year, seven were crushed by having their bodies run over, no head injury involved. It just highlights that the...

    Automatic hub gears?

It's an SRAM product Tom. There's a thorough review of it on this link. Also A to B magazine reviewed the older Shimano 3 speed automatic system fitted to an e-bike and reported favourably on it. .

    Danish cycling

Absolutely Jim, and its the same with commuters in The Netherlands and Germany. That's why they can wear street clothing and don't have to have helmets at those reasonable speeds. I really don't think London, or indeed most British cyclists do themselves any favours by forcing the pace the way...

    Danish cycling

That's because, like the Dutch, almost all of them don't need them. Just like I don't need one and never have done in almost 70 cycling years. I didn't need one on my motorbike either for the 23 years before they became compulsory. Of course some do need them and I'm all for those who do...

Cyclamatic power pluss key in ignition

I confirm that is normal on many e-bikes. I suppose it does ensure that you are never stranded elsewhere without a key. .

It's not just us who argue about power levels.

James Dyson's claims are rubbish, what is wrong with the German companies quoting their empty bag figures? Nothing of course, that is how the cleaners are supplied to consumers and they can change the bags as often as they wish. He is equally misleading about the pad filters in such as the Vax...

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

Same problem in Britain. Frankly I'm not interested in the authorities providing cycle paths if they aren't going to maintain them in a usable condition, and that they certainly don't do here. Once provided they are never swept and almost never repaired. .

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

But that 27.5 kph is permitted already, like here the authorities have a tolerance and that's only 10% over the nominal 25 kph. So it is all about speed then, and the authorities just don't see pedelecs in that way since what you want is well over reasonable cycling speeds. As said...

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

I've never managed a 20 mph (32 kph) average on an e-bike in my area, not even on the eZee Torq that assisted to 22 mph. About 17 mph (27 kph) was my best average which I think perfectly reasonable in my hilly area. After all, the club and professional riders who train in this area typically...

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

I'm a bit surprised that the current law isn't adequate for those hills. I live in the hilly North Downs and my home is up a 14% hill. I also tackle much steeper hills of up to 25%. Although never a sporting superfit type, I rode unpowered to the age of 67, and only then adding power to cope...

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

But herein lies the problem. Transport including pedelecs crosses borders so each country simply cannot have individual regulations if the EU is to work at all. That's why from the very beginning the EU has had transport integration at its heart and have the say. And when they make decisions...

Why does a Pedelec cut out at 15.5mph?

I've already answered when you said you were going to pose this question, but here is the answer copied across: Simple answer JOB100. The main cycling countries in Europe like The Netherlands have utility riders, using their bikes purely as transport with no sporting intentions, so they...
