UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

True Hoppy, but the DfT are stating that they intend to accept a throttle bike free of other regulation if it conforms to EAPC in all other respects, just so long as it's been type approved. That is because they've adapted the old EAPC law rather than changing to the EU pedelec laws, and the...

S class bikes spreading more widely

Maybe a misunderstanding. That type approved 1000 watts, 25 kph class is the Low Powered Moped class, L1e-A. These can be cycle style. The full moped class which permits 45 kph and which the scooter style machines fit is L1e-B. The 45 kph S class Speed Pedelecs are an in-between case and I...

    New safety rules for London

I agree with SRS. Also, as I posted recently, the majority of the deaths are female, 3 out of 4 deaths so far this year again, despite them being very much in the minority in cycling in London. Simple logic is that this is nothing to do with the trucks, they don't select victims by gender. I...

New Electric Bike but one small niggle

Overheating is more likely to be an issue with hub motors, since they include the most powerful e-bike motors. They are completely independent of the cycle gears used of course, so for efficiency and avoiding overheating, the motor is kept in the upper half of the speed range by adjusting the...

New Electric Bike but one small niggle

I don't think this complies though, due to there being no phase down of power with the throttle in use, as mentioned here .

The European Parliament made a recommendation to do just this, but sadly the EU Commission turned it down. .

S class bikes spreading more widely

Speed pedelecs have expanded from Germany into The Netherlands where new models are now being created, more on the link below. France will be joining the S class club too in 2017, so perhaps one day the DfT will relent and allow them here: Bike Europe, Speed class pedelecs .

New Electric Bike but one small niggle

No need for Germany to act, the EU law already effectively bans throttles if the e-bike have not been type approved under motor vehicle type approval legislation, and the new UK legislation will also. Here is the pedelec exemption from type approval (h) pedal cycles with pedal assistance which...

New Electric Bike but one small niggle

That is correct, it's a pedelec and the throttle is only a walk alongside in accordance with EU law where fully acting throttles are not permitted. We in the UK are about to adopt the same law, so soon all our new e-bikes will be like that, many of them already are. Current bikes with a fully...

    Sondors bike crowdfunding on indiegogo

Despite their large range, I think the lack of mentions is due to them not having certain brands which are crucial relative to this forum, Kalkhoff, Woosh and eZee most obviously. .

    Invention versus discovery.

For this and other reasons I stopped watching it long ago Trex. It's become little more than an ego trip for a few self-important publicity seeking rich people. .

. I've always maintained that inventions are extremely rare. The great majority of so-called "inventions" are in reality merely developments. .

    Invisible Bike

I'm not surprised Dave, I think more are gradually getting the message. My reading of the OP's incident was the same as yours, it was avoidable and I would not have suffered it since I would have slowed in such a situation. That's why I've never been in collision with anything else in a...

Is testing the remaining capacity of a battery really possible?

That's obviously something different Steve, but what VictoryV described accurately fits what a heavy discharge tester is. That simply produces a near short circuit across the cell terminals to check for instant voltage collapse as he described. Once commonplace, the advent of sealed lead acid...

Is testing the remaining capacity of a battery really possible?

That's called a heavy discharge tester, they've been in use for decades to test for failing cells. I used to use them in the trade, but they don't give a measure of capacity or content, just cell fitness. .
