I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

Thanks for the info Mike, good to see that it doesn't extend to helmets too, since they are such a deterrent to just hopping on at will for any journey. .

Indeed, and the fact is that kids transported in these unconventional ways love it. Far better than the boredom of being strapped into the family's 4x4 or people carrier. .

From this website: "CryptoWall can afflict both Windows and Mac systems." And also this on the same page in link form for backing up: Macintosh instructions (from Apple) .

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

Interesting that the kids on that trip have safety vests, parents usually never require those worn over there. Presumably the schools there are beginning to be infected by the PC safety culture that inflicts us. Still no helmets though I'm pleased to see. .

    Computer Woes

Seconded and I've always had two internal drives on my computers, plus an independent backup hard drive, a USB 3 one currently, that's only ever plugged in when in use to update the backup or recover something. I also always have a drive image of the OS both on the second internal drive and the...

    The Big Bang Theory

It's terrific and I've followed it from the beginning. For me it ranks with the great classics of situation comedy such as Faulty Towers. However, I'm fearful that it might be stretched too far and I'm seeing signs of weakness now in the latest editions. The producers of the great classics...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

Yes, that is absolutely true SRS, they will use any bike and don't concern themselves as much with such specifics. And of course that is the sort of difference that I, and indeed Eddie, are speaking of. They don't have our snobbish attitudes to bikes, which is why they use such a wide variety...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

The Dutch cycle for everything, they also have sporting cycling and have produced many fine competitive professional riders competing in such as the Tour de France. They use a wide variety of goods carrying bikes and many types of bike for transporting kids with adults. They also ride for...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

It's pure fantasy to believe that the cycling infrastructure is always perfect in such as the Netherlands and Denmark, and we've had the odd video link to posted in here showing that tough conditions also exist. One posted by someone living there showed a very scary narrow road section with...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

We've seen plenty of videos of commuting in the Netherlands and Denmark and they look exactly like that first photo. They commute on upright utility style bikes in normal street clothing.

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

It's a very fair comparison, both groups are commuting. That it's a red route or having cycle lanes doesn't in any way influence how our lot are dressed, their body stances or the types of bikes chosen. The photos show two entirely different attitudes to cycling, and that's a problem here in...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

On rare occasions I've suffered the odd bit of abuse from drivers but have never had a single adverse comment from a lycra. Quite the opposite in fact, a few have shown lots of interest in my e-bikes and asked questions about them. On one occasion when stopped looking at a view a lycra stopped...

I'm beginning to hate (some) cyclists

I've always thought this is the case Jonathan, and the language often used in relation to roads tends to emphasise it, such expressions as fighting for road space, strugging with traffic etc., and this can affect all road users. Road rage is a very well known way in which this shows, "fights"...

Bosch Tuning dongles arrived today - 50kph cut off..

In that case, soldering the shunt in the controller is the easiest and a very cheap way of making the Cyclamatic a bit more powerful. If you go back to my original reply and use that link I gave to several more links from Fordulike (who was the first in here to do this on a Cyclamatic), you'll...

    bafang crank drive kits

Yes, that can be a throttle advantage in very confined traffic situations. However I find it possible to cope with those odd occasions using the pedals in stepping fashion, a slight thrust of a forward pedal and quick slight back pedal to thrust again on that pedal. Another way to describe this...

    bafang crank drive kits

I also don't understand the British preference for throttles Frank, but think it may in part be connected with the British tendency to see cycling as sport rather than transport. I've owned both kinds of e-bike at the same time and find rides on good torque sensor bikes much more relaxing...

Can anyone help me on what bike to buy....

You can do an eliminator to narrow things down. Have a look online at all you think might be ok and examine their specifications. Doing that you'll find things that don't suit or you don't like on many of them, enabling you to strike those off. You can even include style and looks in that...
