    Eccentric rear light.

We've discussed these "beam lines on the road" systems before, but I doubt they would be useful now when driver have to use dipped headlights in town. The powerful light from them would drown out any low power laser projected line, particularly since when correctly adjusted the beams are left...

Giant Revive "Spirit" Mid Drive Chain Adjustment

If it's anything like the usual Panasonic "tensioner", it's actually intended as a chain wrapper rather then a tensioner, the tensioning being done in the usual bicycle way at the rear wheel. The distance of the wrapper idler from the motor drive sprocket is the critical thing. This item on my...

    Eccentric rear light.

Many decades ago there was an eccentric retired man who fitted a huge box shaped frame around his bicycle and rode various London commuting routes in the morning rush hours just to establish cycling rights. He became quite famous/notorious with newspaper articles etc about him. I can't...

Four to five weeks won't hurt it however it's stored, what you've done is fine. .

    Eccentric rear light.

Seems as if hs problem is that he's an idiot. Perhaps he was merely objecting to the departure from the norm, some just can't handle that. Should this happen again, just stop and see what he does, go past or stop too! .

    Looking for a new battery

Since VAT and duty etc might push the price to over £200, it might be less hassle to get one from Woosh or Kudos for hardly any more. As for better, some do appear to last longer but as this factor is very system and usage dependent, it's difficult to make fair comparisons. .

    Kalkhoff battery question

Do you have a source for this Trex? Metallic lithium which can form dendrites is only used in the anodes of primary (non-rechargeable) lithium cells, our rechargeable lithium ion batteries use intercalated lithium compound for the cathode instead. The formation of metallic dendrites in these...

    Kalkhoff battery question

As I noted that will happen when the weather is very cold and the battery drops to very low temperatures. Then it's quite common for a capacity check to show only four of the five LEDs lit, but a return to milder weather usually recovers it to a five LED reading. Hence my warning not to run to...

    When to scrap an e-bike?

I don't know, but I have left them at battery points in the Council's recycling depots. The earliest ones i scrapped that way in 2006/7 I clearly labelled with a warning that they were lithium high capacity to avoid their having any accidents at that time when their knowledge would have been...

    Newcomer to pedelec,

Seconding what KudosDave has said, even second hand prices are usually over your budget for what you require. Other than the motor you've asked for the following: "off road bike for its strength and looks, .a mountain type bike with sprung rear frame and front forks, frame to contain the...

    When to scrap an e-bike?

It's been many years since refuse collectors would pick up anything other than black refuse sacks in the areas around here. They are all private companies operated services of course. My council is not untypical, for £10 one can have a single collection of up to eight household items of any...

    Kalkhoff battery question

No advantage at all apart from the meter zeroing. Since the metering can drift out over time, it is recommended that the zeroing be carried out from time to time to keep it accurate. However, since completely emptying a lithium battery is best avoided, that should only be done quite rarely...

    Kalkhoff battery question

Only those few with intelligent battery meters normally need this running to flat to set a zero point for accurate metering. If yours has the battery integral meter it would probably be best to do it for perfect accuracy. I know how inconvenient this is, living in a hilly area as well, so try...

    Damage to battery.

None at all. All our ebike batteries can be used in any orientation. However, removing it to take off the weight of the battery makes the bike easier to turn over in some cases. .

    Newcomer to pedelec,

I'll just add to the KirstinS post that the 250 watt legal rating is a nominal figure. The actual maximum power is far greater, typically around 400 to 500 watts with some motors a lot higher. The way in which the EU law is specified allows considerable flexibility in this respect. There are...

    Giant Revive Spirit Spoke Magnets

I liked it too and think it sad that the conservatism of cycling purists rejected it. Truth is it was probably before it's time with it's advanced features and lithium battery in 2004. Maybe a rethink and updated design in the future will earn it the success the general design deserves. .
