I was thinking is there any advantage fitting a 29er to the front with a 26er on the rear or can I fit 29ers to my bike instead of the 26ers?

I don't know if the larger size will fit your bike, but smaller wheels have a leverage advantage which makes their torque gain a better choice on the driven wheel for climbing. Rear wheel on your bike of course.

If it's not the motor drive wheel, larger is better for handling gulleys, deep ruts etc, so a large front and smaller rear would be optimum for your bike if handling really deep undulations on the rough.
