I have finally found time to do my Raleigh Array that I took all the Suntours kit out of.

700C wheel

250W Bafang rear hub drive same motor used in Pendleton Somerby e bikes

17Amp KT Controler

KT LCD 4

HL 13.5 AH battery from YOSE 48V

KT PAS 6 poles I think have to have a look the larger one that fits left or right side with a ring on the BB

Had to make a battery bracket out of scrap Ali I have , I should have just bought a piece of section to raise the battery above the recess on the frame but I was being tight and ended up giving my self a days extra work save a penny spend a pound .

I have just took it out for a road test really happy with it I was going to sell it as I am really into the Giant Entour but unless I can get a bit more torque out of the Giant I think to keep it now. Thinking about a post on this soon .

Could do with some advise the second and third settings as they are just as they came from the factory at the moment and I think the motor may be a little noisy low whine.

Also I have never set the end user password to revert to road legal if used off road .

I think I will also go for the legal 15MPH throttle eventually.

Have a look at the label on the controller. If the designation number starts with SVP, it's a sinewave one, so should be quiet and smooth. If it starts with ZWS, it's a square wave one, so more noisy and not as smooth.

I never noticed much difference in the settings except when running sensorless with the sensorless version.

Ok I see that photo is not clear it’s a Square wave it the only one I could find on e bay with a light wire.

I don't know what you're hearing, but most square wave controllers make a sort of electric motor sound from the motor. The slower you go, the worse it is, especially if you have a motor with a lowish internal reduction ratio - say 5:1 or less. It's basically the frequency of the commutation pulses. You can feel them at very slow speed, a bit like gears doing something.

Always check the label and description for SVP. Even then, some sellers will slip in the cheaper square wave one, hoping that you don't know how to tell from the label what it is.

Top bike are listing at 38USD I paid £38.00 including shipping it just about fit in that Array

It sounds like a lime bike so I guess it’s ok I am just used to Sinewave.

I will get into setting up the passwords over the weekend .

Do you think the Bafang hub drives are better than the AKM at 250W range are all of the Bafang actually 500W then restricted down to 250W ? Or are they just more money

The motor watt rating is a bit random but bikes for the UK and EU market are generally marked as 250w.

I've been very pleased with it and I noticed pswpower market a version as 48v and supply it with a 20A controller, I've been running mine 48v 18 amp and it copes well with my weight (105kg) in a very hilly area

I prefer AKM motors. They're generally very reliable and they have the advantage of a higher reduction ratio than the normal Bafangs, though some Bafangs also have a high reduction ratio (370?). Higher reduction ratio means more torque and efficiency.

Be careful of passwords in KT LCDs. If you forget it, there's nothing you can do except take it off and stamp on it.

G370 has high internal gearing a neat small front hub motor, not yet seen a rear model.
For a lightish bike and riding for predominently flattish terrain G370 is a smooth nice little hub. It will easily carry a 80- 85kg rider and gamely tows a trailer with 90kg paylaod.

I think I want to try tweak the Giant Entour for my self it’s a later one with the Yamaha mid drive happy with the speed as it makes me do a bit more of the work ie exercise and I can peddle it faster that 15MPH Or I may try one of these devices on sale on e bay to get the best of both worlds.

But I would like to get a bit more torque out of it do you know if they are suitable for a 48V battery ?

AKM @17a should be fine a s long as one doesn't labour the hub on inclines, best to use PAS 4 or 5 on inclines and keep the speed above 8/9mph.

The 350w AKM 100's nylon gears suffered at 20a/48v , 250w /17a @ 36v shouldn't be an issue.
The main issue is how far and for how long one want's to stress the nylon gears for at higher current, at the std current the gears are fine .

By coincidence I've just got back from an 18 mile test ride on my hybrid that has a Yose 250w AKM95 RX cassette motor and a newly fitted 20a KT controller from PSW power.
I've run it at 15a with a new 48v. battery and the performance is superb in every way. Steep hills are flattened with PAS 5 and PAS 1 is more than adequate for general riding. I don't see any need for more than 15 amps.
The Yose cassette motors have a lower gear ratio (8.15:1) than their front and rear freewheel motors (4.4:1) and the 250w cassette motor is a much better hill climber- albeit it with a lower top speed. With 48 volts it well out-performs my AKM95 RS 350w. freewheel motor currently using 36v. at 18 amps. I might try the 350w. on 48 volts at some point but I suspect it will be much too fast and the efficiency will suffer at lower speeds.
The Yose 250w. ran cool and quiet throughout the ride, despite deliberately over-using PAS 5 and ghost pedalling up a particularly steep hill.

It was Cwah who use to frequent the forum in the past that had issues with AKM100's he used to operate them at 48v /20a eventually destroying the gears.
The larger 128's can take more current at 48v.

That's the beauty of KT's , like wise I also find PAS 1 more then ample power for nearly all my riding that doesn't involve steeper inclines. I can manage on subtle inclines but the advantage of using a higher PAS level on steeper inclines is a gimme to prevent the hub from labouring and to aid getting up the hill quicker. Both will be advantageous to the rider and hub.
With current control one can have the power one needs rather then power one has no choice over.

No, it'll be fine. I used to run the smaller ones at 17A.
